Issues After Lost Motion Spring Recall
I had my cowling partially replaced/reinstalled today. The dealer was not happy to see me back, argumentatively denied they did anything wrong, but they did replace parts/fix it.
I love the car, but I hope this is the last recall, and that I never have to go back.
Do any good dealers exist?

noises after recall
Got the LMS replaced 2 weeks ago, went back next morning to point out the excessive ticking. Service manager started another fit even same model (sport navi) that was there for recall. I'll admit they sounded similar. He said drive it a week or two. I tend to listen and notice every noise new & old my vehicles make, so much that my wife thinks I'm crazy. Even she noticed the new noises, also the low idle and passenger side wiper arm vibrating. Took it back today, they say valves are within spec's and they compared to another fit and it sounded the same, checked and re-torked the wiper arm, which according to them was never removed because they do all this without removing cowling. I totally understand about having valves loose vs tight, burning a valve etc.. They say the noise is the injectors, and that they are just noisy on these cars. Anyone else get the same explanation?

And they wonder why people don't have their cars worked on at dealerships, when their service writers just make up stuff out of thin air, and their mechanics routinely screw things up and and they both just assume the customer won't notice or won't care????

LMS replacement done last week @ 24,000 miles (09). No issues. The dealer did remove the cowling to access. Careful inspection afterwards showed no signs of fat-fingered mechanics. Not even any stray oil drops or greasy fingerprints. Kudos to Hennessy Honda in Wooldstock GA.
Left previous evening. Ready by 10AM.
Valve-train is less noisy than before, especially when cold. No valve-train noise noticeable at operating temp inside cabin at idle or hard acceleration.

LMS recall completed yesterday @ 43,000 miles.
Springs were in the suspect range so were replaced. Valve adjustment done afterwards. Like previous post stated my engine is now slightly more quiet than before. No issues with cosmetics or cowling fitment either (2 missed plastic push pins I noticed and corrected). Job well done by Sterling McCall Honda in Humble TX, friendly and very knowledgable staff as well.
Some previous posts mentioned their recall service being done in 1-1/2 to 2 hours waiting time. If I was you I would inquire if they actually needed to replace your springs or not. If springs are replaced then valves need to be adjusted and you cannot do an accurate valve adjustment on a warm engine. Takes 3-4 hours just for your engine to cool down. Might explain some of the complaints of noise after recall service if the valves were not adjusted cold.

I was trying to keep my cool and just wanted my car fixed without any additional damage, so I didn't press them. The last thing I wanted was an oil change coupon, but a sorry would have been nice. We're lucky to have several great independent Honda shops here. So I won't return, I'll tell my friends, their loss.

Just had the LMS recall done
Service Dept: Bob Lanphere's Beaverton Honda
Mileage in: 19,451
Mileage out: 19,452
Oil life: 80%
Time in: 10am
Time out: 3:40pm
After reading other's experience had me so worried that I decided to remove all the trim and lower cowl piece myself before taking it in.

Nobody at the service dept. even questioned why there were missing pieces
.
Overall, it was a great experience. They replaced all 4 springs. The engine had a slight tick noise on light acceleration before the LMS replacement, but it is all smooth and quiet now. Exhaust note even feels a bit deeper and gas feels slightly punchier. I also had a tad bit of spilt oil on the backside of the motor block that was collecting dirt, they cleaned all that up very nicely. When I voiced concerns about gasket curing time while picking it up, the service writer said it should be fine since they let it sit in the back of the building since noon.
Only two complaints (petty complaints):
1)They used up about a gallon of fuel and my avg mpg meter dropped by 12mpg @ ~1/2 tank. So it looks like they let it idle for a long while, possibly listening or checking for leaks.
2) the Vin wasn't punched with a dot above the 'J' like the Service Bulletin says to do.
Anyways, kudos to Beaverton Honda for making me feel like an idiot for worrying too much.

Update: After I picked up the car from the dealer after the second time it was there, the vibrations and rough idling were better at first.
A week later, the vibrations are almost as bad as after they first did the recall and the wiper arm vibrates constantly when the car idles.
I'm going to have to take it back for a 4th day to have it fixed, but might have to take it to a different dealer and/or have the recall work completely redone.
Meanwhile, I may have to borrow or buy scientific equipment that will show the level of vibration since the people at the dealer claim they can't feel it (although they can't claim not to see the constant wiper arm vibration).
Again wishing I'd never taken this in -- they've ruined my car.

May not be that simple. I'm sure Honda has a record of what cars had the recall done so any delaer you go to is likely to know yours was done already. You're probably going to have to establish with Honda that the work was not done properly if you want them to redo it. Good luck and keep us posted.
Here are the copies of everything: https://picasaweb.google.com/1025845...eat=directlink
It's especially interesting that some dealers have apparently REFUSED to do this recall and Honda is scolding them for it.
Incidentally, today I had my 2009 Fit into the dealer for an oil change because we are preparing for a long roadtrip. After I dropped it off, the dealer called to "upsell" me with some additional services, but did not mention anything about this recall. My Fit is in the VIN range and I did receive the mailing. I know the dealer is aware of it because there was a notation on the order printed by the service writer (which I wasn't supposed to see). There was nothing about the recall on the paperwork that was given to me.
That's just fine with me because I'd like to wait a while before having this recall done on my vehicle anyway. If Honda has already revised the instructions once, they might do it again. Or, perhaps they will study the LMS springs that are coming back and then decide the recall is not necessary.
Anyway, it seems to me that the dealers absolutely hate this recall. They are NOT going to bring it to your attention. If you want it, you must demand it from them, and even then some are REFUSING to do it as the above letter from Honda indicates.
My experience with Power Honda Valencia was very positive. No damaged/broken clips/missing fasteners or scratches. The service rep said they don't go in through the cowl any more - there was no evidence that they did - i.e the thin layer of dust on the cowl was undisturbed. Before/after engine sound is the same
I also had the MPG software updated (S/B 09-086); they did it for free even though I just went over 37,000 miles.

Just had my LMS recall done by Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, IL. Everything seems fine so far; all parts seem to be in place. I only drove about 10 miles since picking it up; vibes & sound are consistent with pre-recall observations.
Got it done. The experience went smoothly, and the car is smoother/quieter as well. The dealership was "one of those good ones" and they also, at my request, let the car cool down in the shop all day and did it right before 5:00. The cowl is intact.
Here's the kicker: my garage no longer smells like engine oil after I get home and turn the car off. That's good!
