Aftermarket filter makers dropping the ball

Just a rant- with a jillion of these cars out there, and the GE being available for like, 3 years, still no aftermarket paper air filters? I just love paying 25 bucks for a stupid air filter at the Honda dealer.

P.S. I'm here to rant about the paper filters, not debate the merits of K&Ns.
P.P.S. 25 freakin' bucks!

Purolator makes a filter for the GE but none of the auto parts chain stores stock them. Advance Auto said they can order it and have it in a day or two for.......................................wait for it.....................................wait for it.............................wait for it..............................

Although I personally don't run paper filters, I have to agree- it's an untapped market. So, who's got a paper mill, plastic mfg. facility, and a distribution network- let's hit it!

All kidding aside, it's ridiculous that I could get an air filter for my rare older Audi at Autozone, but can't get one for a mass-produced, hugely popular Honda- go figure- Mark W.

I believe Honda is good automaker. I've owned Honda's for a long time. But they are one of the worst for designing or marketing things "oddball" or specific, thus forcing you to go to a Honda Dealer. They seem to make things as ungeneric as possible thus forcing you to purchase or return the car to the dealership.

Honda isn't the only automaker that does this, all of them do to an extent, but Honda is one of the worst.

Odd OEM tire size.
Battery that is also hard to find.
Evidently now I learn Air Filter that is almost dealership exclusive.

Honda doesn't seem to design right now to encourage owner generated maintanence.

I had 37000 miles on my GD3 air filter and could not find a filter either. I just blew it out with air and it never really got dirty. I didn't want to pay 25 bucks either. Air filters are over sold like a lot of maintenance things. A dirty air filter doesn't help as much in mpg like it did in the past. It does help in performance though.
