A note on 2011 Fit availability

I have been following on-line the inventory situation at my local Honda dealer for several months(Hilton Head Honda, Bluffton, SC). Although they have a reasonable size inventory (117 Hondas, 104 of them 2011 vehicles), they have never had a 2011 Fit in their inventory. They currently have 4 2010's, down from 7 about two months ago. This pales beside their 47 Accords, 25 CR-V's, 16 Pilots and 12 Odyssey's. Only 5 Civics.

I wonder if there are many other Honda dealers who failed to stock up on 2011 Fits.

I live in a city of ~125 K --we have one Honda dealer in town, two more deaers in two other towns about 35- 40 miles away.
Last week my dealer had 7- 2011 Fits, now they have 9. They have no 2010's left. Guessing your dealer needs to sell off the 2010's and get the best price he can before getting any 2011 models. Four seem like alot of 2010's to still have on the lot & Honda Corporate may not give them 2011's until they reduce inventory.

My dealer just down the street...

-had 31 Fits 2 months ago
-about 2 weeks ago they had 24
-now they are down to 17

Looking at those numbers it would appear the numbers are
dwindling without replenishment.

The good news is that the Honda factories are back to 50%
production.

The possible bad news is that at 50% production it will take
them twice as long to fill a ship with Honda vehicles... perhaps
they will share the ship with other manufacturers.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. The boats are shipping companies (independent from Honda), they'll always fill it with something.

The only question is, what is Honda's shipping policy. Minimum quota per shipment? Or just a set schedule date, regardless of the quantity?

This makes sense. When I bought my FIT last year, the dealership did everything they could to ensure I was a happy customer when I drove the new FIT away from the showroom.

I was being told by the sales person that if I marked "excellent" to survey questions when being called by Honda corporate for customer satisfaction survey, the higher the customer survey satisfaction score achieved by the dealer for new vehicles sold, the higher the quota of new 2011 cars Honda Corporate will assign them.

I stopped by the dealer today to schedule the Ridgeline for some service. there were 6 or 7 sports on the lot that I saw (maybe a few others out front too) and there were at least 4 that were 5MT. Our dealer usually has 5-10 Fits on the lot.

Ships leave on particular dates, just like planes.
They don't wait. If they leave late, it throws off everything in the schedule and cycle.

Oh no, I meant what's Honda's policy. If they go by quota, then they'd have to skip a shipment date when it's low. Otherwise, the shipping company just gets a little less to ship from Honda.

Hey bud, I live in Hardeeville and just picked up my white GE8 from HH Honda about a month back. I also thought it was odd that they didn't have any 2011s. Maybe they don't move a lot of Fits in this area... ?

I just picked my fit up last week. The dealer said they will not be getting any Fits (or some other cars that are built in Japan) for a while due to supply chain issues caused by the earthquake.
