Tips for maintaining Fit
Tips for maintaining Fit
I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport 5 speed. Bought it back in September 2010. So far I have 14k miles! My question is, minus proper oil changes, wheel rotation - what else should I do to maintain my car for all the miles I drive. Also, is it ok to drive that much?
I don't have the exact answer for you as my wife is gone in the car now and I don't have the owners manual to read. Just check it out. It includes a maintenance schedule. As far as how much you're driving; you're doing fine. If you follow the maintenance schedule reasonably close you'll be good for several hundred thousand miles.
Driving 2800 miles/month for a period of five month is a lot, and you're going to hit 100,000 miles a lot sooner. But it really depends on what your driving needs are and how far you're traveling.
Other than oil changes: check air pressure, air filter, belts, hoses, oil level, coolant, wipers, cleaning interior or exterior, etc. Pretty much those.
If you still have the owner's manual theres a list of maintenance that they recommend you do to extend the Fit.

so far I have 62k on my 09....other than a few warranty issues, things have been really good. Just stay on top of your car...and keep current with this website. The info that so many have here has been really helpful to me.
Drive it more, worry less. The Fit is generally a very reliable car.
I'd not worry about doing anything else until your car has far more miles on it. Maybe rust-proof it for next winter if you live in the Salt Belt.
Ours has ~40k miles on it. All we've done is changed the oil, changed the engine air and cabin filters, rotated tires, and filled it up. We're going to flush the brake fluid out soon, and drain/refill the radiator with new Honda Type 2 coolant. Even that's being uber-conservative with the maintenance.

Check your tire pressure monthly or sooner. The TPMS system does monitor tire pressure but is meant more as a warning system should pressure start to drop dramatically.
Pop the hood and give the engine bay a visual inspection for anything abnormal, check fluid levels and adjust as necessary: oil, brake, coolant, windshield washer fluid.
Keep it clean and give it a coat of wax every six months. At all costs avoid the car washes where the rotating brushes scrape along the paint surface. Touch-less car washes are fine. I always give it a wipe down with a microfiber towel or chamois afterward.
Given the mileage you put on I'm assuming there is a lot of highways miles... if not then take it out on the highway for a run once in a while.
Above all... enjoy it and don't worry. I worried about my last vehicle... this one I just drive and just verify things are ok once in a while.
