New seats or changing them?

Hi there,

I really LOVE my Fit except for one thing: the seats. I had numerous cars but those seats are the worst I'd never put my back on. I tried to add some lumbar support with an orthopedic cushion, but it's still not enough to enjoy riding this car.

I think Krimson (what is his name) had a plan for this. Would it be possible to post some pictures about what to do exactly to improve the seats, and what would it change overall?

Also, anyone know if it would be possible to get a new sit, maybe an old Fit 08 seat (I read they were comfortable) or any kind of other seats?

I have less than 1,000 miles on my car, but been in pain getting my sciatic stuck every time I ride this car is pretty annoying, to say the least...

Thanks

I found the lumbar support to be way to much for me. What you can do is open up the back of the seat, there are zippers along the sides on the back, and start shoving things behind the white plastic part and the back foam of the seat untill it is the way you like.

I ended up replacing the molded plastic part with a piece of plywood on mine to make it flatter.

Thanks for the tips... but if I shove this foam, won't the seat be even less comfortable? Should'nt I try to add foam?

Yeah, that's what I mean, for me though it was too much so I took away. Take a look in there, it is rather easy to see how it all works in there.

A guy I work with actually pulled the seat cover off on his 2005 Civic Si (It isn't glued on the front on those like it seems to be on the fit) and just put a rolled up towel in there. Just try stuff until it works. That's what I do.

Sheez... the cover on the Fit is glued??? OMG... If I miss my shot it will be a disaster!

Hmmm... I'm not sure what to do... Feel so uncomfortable.

The front of the cover is glued, the back just lifts up with zippers, and once you undo the two zippers on the side there is a a plastic clip along the bottom that you pull it out of and the whole bottom half of the flap lifts up. Like I said, go take a look at the back of the seat and see how it is put together.

I just went to an empty parking lot and tried to unzip the seat but was only able to see the back... and everything looks very tight.

I can't believe there is nothing I can do... or that Honda didn't think about this.

Feel somehow desperate. I love this car, but if it hurts to drive it...

On the US GE's the ends of the zippers are tucked up inside, you have to fish them out. If not then I don't know but there should be something there.

Sometimes you have to adjust the nut between the steering wheel and the seat. Ive found myself slouching, a big no-no...

x_25:I found the zippers, unzipped them, but the only thing I was able to see was the back of the seat... Maybe it is because it is glued...

wontfit: Did it help? I mean: you weren't comfortable but by ajusting the nut you are now?

The first image is my new Fit 2011 seat. The second one is my Golf 96 seat. As you can see the Golf 96 seat has nearly no curve in it while the Fit has a big curve. Is there a way to remove that curve in Fit 2011? I mean: if I open the seat again I can mess it all..

Thanks to anyone who can help me

That is exactly what I did. I will have to get some pictures later. I removed the white plastic piece (which is the biggest cause of the curve in the back) and disabled the active head rest (I am going to get yelled at for that but there is not way it it still not safer than the "head rests" that were in my 97 Civic.) which also caused a lot of it. I then used a piece of 1/4" plywood 13" x 10.5" to replace the plastic piece.

I'm probably the worst DIY guy out there but if you can show some pictures and how you did it I may try it... but I fear that I can ruin it all...

By the way, is the seat skin still glued or you were able to remove it... and how did you do to make the plywood stay in its place?

Right now I am looking at two solutions:

1) Get rid of the back piece;
2) Add something behind my upper-back.

You did solution 1, but I'm not sure if solution 2 may be more comfortable, because the seats are not straight, I mean they are curved on the side so if you only get rid of the plastic piece on your lumbar you may have your shoulders curved because of that curve in the seat...

I'm not sure if what I am trying to say is clear enough, but maybe you'll understand!

BTW what do you mean by disabling the active head reast?

The Fit seats gave me a pain in the butt, too. For several months I tried different positions and wound with the back reclined a tad more and the bottom almost all the way back (I'm 5'11"). So my legs are bent but arms almost straight. That plus a little getting used to it and it's much better. Other people have posted about adding washers to the front mounting bolts so the bottom is tipped back a little.

FWIW geo

I use a butt cushion anyway so it isn't that much an issue... But reclining the seat a tad more is not an option for me unfortunately... I am only comfortable when I sit straight. Got some back problems anyway but I was really comfortable in my old Golf and I'd like to get as comfortable in my Fit...

I have a GD model but experienced cervical, lumbar, and sciatic pain when driving it.. I know that sheepskin covers have not been considered fashionable since the 1980s but using one on the drivers seat of my car has provided a great deal of relief for me... They provide support where I need it and conform to body shapes much like memory foam... My wife has them on her Forester and though she has no chronic pain issues, she loves them..
