security system...

Anyone with a 2gn Fit Sport install another security system? ...is it necessary given the vehicle already has a security system?

What did you install?

The immobilizer system that comes with it is pretty good. I had a key cut in an attempt to make a spare, but even though it fit and would start the car, it'd die after a few seconds. I'd install wheel locks though in your case. Some members here had their Sport wheels jacked.

I have the wheel locks for a deterrent and never leave the vehicle in a bad area of town nor do I live in a bad area.

I'm a little paranoid now since a 1992 Honda Accord was stolen right outside the building at the complex last week sometime during the night.

Gated community, but the gate codes are not changed often enough and the street address number opens the gate. Management calls it semi-secure. I called it no-secure.

I don't know if he had a security system, but do know he had an audio system with a CD changer in the trunk... which are considered old. Poor guy just had the vehicle painted a couple of months ago.

Apparently the 1991 Honda Accord is on the "most stolen" lists.

What I find entertaining about those most stolen lists is how it's still cars from the 80's and 90's as the most stolen. Not having access to the raw numbers, I suspect the thefts are declining just because those old cars are slowly dying and new cars are much harder to steal. I can remember that with my first Olds, any Olds key (and probably any GM key) would work to unlock and start it. It sucks when you forget where you park and accidentally drive off with someone else's car.

But basically with the immobilizer, which is hard to bypass quickly and quietly, the only way to steal the car is with a tow truck, which is much harder to prevent. How much is lojack anyway? I'd put that price against your theft deductible instead.

Prior to owning my fit I had my Honda Civic hotwired and stolen in the middle of the night (RIP).

I don't think anyone would really want to steal a Fit, but I have seen more Fits get their wheels stolen rather than the car itself. To help deter any wheel thefts, I installed a Viper security system and put on some Gorilla wheel locks, since the factory installed security won't make a peep if your car is being molested.

I spoke with the fellow who had his Honda stolen.

He had it painted recently and had a dispute with the shop over
the poor paint job they did.

He suspects they were the ones who painted it given there was
no broken glass on the ground where the car was parked.

Meanwhile the complex management puts out a letter and along
with other things states "we cannot provide safety"... wowaa.
I think they are covering their asses legally.

There was a light outside my building that floods the parking area
out for months a while back. I reported it as soon as noticed... it
took them weeks to replace. Their excuse..."the bulbs are on
backorder". With an item like that the complex should keep a few
on hand.

Wonder what they would have said had the vehicle been stolen
when that light was out.

On another note, the passenger side of my Fit almost got sideswiped
earlier today. Another vehicle attempting to merge did not obey the
yield sign and apparently did not see me. I had to take some quick
action to avoid the mess. Man, a good reminder to never trust that
the person merging will actually follow the rules of the road.

this is quite pertinent to your last post. years ago, my brother and I had to attend our cousin's wedding in monterey. we left his prelude in the driveway. when we got back, it was gone. the alarm horn was in the bushes and there were scrapes on the driveway since the thieves probably did not take their time driving away in a lowered prelude. he suspects it was done by someone at the alarm shop. moral of the story is that when you get your alarm installed, pay cash and do not fill out your address on any forms. hell, I'd leave them a fake name but I don't know how useful that would be if you had a problem with the install down the line.

Correction to above text...

"painted it" should read "stole it"
