going out of the country...

...for about 2 weeks sometime this summer or fall and am debating what to do with the Fit during that time.

Should I remove the battery?

My concerns...

-drain on the battery over the 2-weeks. I would think this is minimal.

-lack of security system & the flashing light

No.

Unless the battery is degraded, it should have reserve enough to start the car after sitting in an airport parking lot for 4 weeks. In the winter. In Minneapolis.

The Fit will be sitting at home under the carport in a gated community.

No way I'm leaving it at the airport for 2-weeks.

All righty.

If you had one of these
, you could leave it plugged in and have peace of mind.

Yup. Shouldn't have an issue of leaving the Fit connected to the battery for two weeks.

I didn't leave the country, but I couldn't drive for a month due to knee surgery a while back. This was in the winter also.

From September through May I drive my car twice a month all in one weekend. If I have no issues with a 91 Civic and a 99 Integra, I think you'll be fine

Many cars sit on dealer lots for way more than 2 weeks so nothing to worry about.

I second this, I've been on deployment for 5 months now and my battery has been good with the trickle charger

The current generation of trickle chargers are smart. They condition the battery by varying current (and may actually discharge at some point in the cycle). I got one to keep a boat battery in good condition over the winter but it's finding other uses. Wife left the lights on; it's a Fit friendly battery charger too, so long as you have a while.

Still, I wouldn't worry about it for 2 weeks... 5 months is another thing (hope you put stabilizer in the gas).

Two weeks won't be a problem. I go on vacation three weeks at a time about twice a year and have never had an issue with any of my cars being left without a trickle charger.

My sportbikes on the other hand...

Ok guys... thanks for the input.

I was concerned due to never having owned a vehicle
with such a small battery.

That is one item I wish they would upgrade to a larger size.

Nothing to worry about. My tractor battery is smaller than the fit, it sits in our not-really-heated garage (2 car garage with bad insulation and 1 small vent that gets down to the teens a few times/winter) here in VT all winter, every winter. It's a 12V battery as well and we just replaced it. it's 8 years old.

A solar battery charger would be ideal for that situation:
