windshield wiper clicking noise?
Hi everyone-
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but after searching I found different wiper noise issues than I'm experiencing.
I have a brand new '11 sport (1400 miles). I was using the wipers today and every time the wipers moved, it sounded like the motor made a "click", once when the wiper moved up and once when it moved back down.
Has anyone else had this happen? And would it be worth taking to the dealer to have them look at?
Thanks,
Di

I have a about a year old 2010 Fit and live in the Pacific NW, where the windshield wipers get a lot of use. I don't notice any "clicking". If it was me? Since your vehicle is brand new, under warranty, I'd take it to the dealership...at least ask to sit in another Fit and listen...you could compare if the sound you are hearing is "normal" operation or abnormally loud. If you don't hear the same clicking on another new Fit...get the relays replaced. Better now under warranty than 3 1/2 years from now on your own dime...

relays click when they switch on/off. They're mechanical: they consist of a low current electric magnet (solenoid) that opens/closes a pair of electrical contacts that carry a higher current. If you don't hear it, it's because road noise, engine noise, rain noise, drown it out (or your ears aren't as sensitive). If you don't think yours click, try running the intermittent wipers with the engine off and no other noises present.
Don't worry about it.

Feel free to ignore it. And it certainly might be nothing. All I'm saying is it evidently bothered you enough to create a post to ask about it...and the only way you can really determine if it's within the range of "normal" operation or indicative of a potential problem would be comparison to similar Honda Fits...
I realize mechanical things often make noise. Trust me...the dealership will be more than willing to tell you it's nothing...

My brand new 2012 base trim model does this too -- but only when wipers are in 'intermittent', not when they are in 'low'.
Wondering whether they all do this, or whether there's any chance of stopping it. It is rather annoying. Possibly only notice it because the ride is so quiet otherwise (compared to the beater I replaced anyway), but it's annoying nonetheless. Makes me want to never use the wipers in intermittent, just go straight to 'low'.

The problem lies in finding a replacement that fits since we no longer have plug in banks of relays all using a standardized size. The one in the Fit is likely surface mount like this little guy and buried in some deep inaccessible location.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't want to do that.
It's pretty much all of them that do this then, can anyone confirm? I should go ask one of my friends who has a Fit to let me check it out in theirs. Maybe just most people aren't as annoyed by it as me!
Wonder why it only happens in 'intermittent' wiper mode; perhaps just the location of the relay used for that mode is closer to the surface or whatever.
