OK, so I sold the Mini, looking at a couple options...
Probably has to do with quotas. They don't sell x amount of new cars then they get a smaller allocation in future shipments. And a lot of people don't shop carefully, enough to provide buyers for the few used Fits out there.
Two years ago when I was shopping for cars I went to Carmax. I always go there to see how models 2 years old are in terms of integrity and drivability. Drive an assortment of cars, and then shop for what I want. Carmax is never competitive if you're willing to do the legwork. But anyway, Carmax had an '08 Sport prominently displayed in the showroom. I was puzzled as the price was higher than MSRP for 09s. I emailed them after I got home to point out their mistake. The saleswoman emailed back to say the car was already sold.
It does seem bizarre though.

I agree! I had no intention or desire to buy a new Fit. After several wasted negotiations on used Fits and several hours on the internet. I bought a new 2011 Fit base/auto.
It makes no sense, but I would have got a 2008/09 for what I paid for a BRAND NEW 2011! This was right after the Tsunami when they would still negotiate. Even as an hard nosed, take no prisoner's, experienced negotiator, I could not do as well now.
If you can postpone your purchase to fall/winter you should be able to do much better.
Plus you can always get a better finance rate on a new car. JIm 0311

Hmm i would not go with that loan company if you can't buy the car where you want. It's your money why should they choose for you. But that just me. I would also agree with you the Navi option is overpriced and not needed with todays smart phones or just buy a GPS for $100 online.
OK, all the dealers in my area seem to add about $2,900 worth of crap to the Fits, it is non-negotiable and non-removable with a car until you buy it. Stuff like the exterior/interior protection package, door and wheelwell trim, wheel locks, etc.
They have some base model 5 speeds that sticker for around $15,8k now cost $19,5k out the door with tax/tag/title and add-ons.
So needless to say I'm looking at pre-owned and have found a couple.
i'm strictly looking for a manual tranny as I will be modding the car a bit and want to keep it fun to drive.
I found a silver 2009 sport with Nav for $17,950 at a Carmax with 30k miles
I found a red 2009 sport non-Nav for $15,9k at a Ford dealer with 31k miles
I am inclined to get the non-Nav model and save the $2k but is there anything I might miss thats bundled with the Nav option?
One other option is I may have found a dealer thats a little farther out of town thats got a new 2011 blue base 5 speed for $15,8k, none of the add-on crap.
Would I be better off buying the new base or the 2 year old sport for the same money? I will work on the Ford dealer Monday morning but its entirely likely I can get them to come off that price a little, especially if I show them I can get a new one for the same price.
If I buy a sport model I'll focus on suspension and engine stuff first, on that order, if I buy the base I will most definitely have to buy some new rims within the first month or buy some used sport rims.
Sorry this is long but please give your thoughts!

Unfortunately, its called marketing when the supply is limited; the supplypromises to loosen but in september.
Buying the used Sport w/31k miles without nav is a much better buy. for $150 or so you can get a Garmin 1350 with unlimited updates. The sport has a number of better options than the base. base is only applicable to autocrossers bent on inimum weight. Only a new Sport at $17k is more promising than a used sport..When you mod the first thing is wider wheels and tires so 7x15 and offset not less than 45 mm wheels with ultimate performance rating 205/50x15 tires with the tire wear rating you want or must live with is the route. if performance is your goal, followed with 1.5" lowered suspension and much better adjustable shocks. More rear antiroll stiffness or less front understeer is advisable to max out the Fit autocrossing potential.
.
Well, I may be changing everything up, I applied and was approved for a better loan from Texans CU, and they don't care about age or who I buy it from, I may go really cheap and buy an older M3. I've owned 7 E36 M3's over 10 years and know how to do anything to them short of an engine rebuild.
I can get a nice E36 M3 for less than $10k, will get mileage in the 28-29mpg range, and is easy to work on.

You're mad! kidding. E36s come up from time to time on this website. And that's all I know about them. Sounds like a lot more fun for your money if you know what you're getting into.
