How long will the battery last?

Hey guys, I was just wondering how long the battery should last if the car is off but an mp3 player is connected. I know it should usually last pretty long with just a radio but with the USB jack and an iPod connected, I could be less. How long would it last with just the iPod connected and all the lights off? Thanks.

What, like in the USB port? With the keys out or in? When the keys out? I'm pretty sure the USB is unpowered when the car is off.

With the keys in but car off. The USB has to use some car battery while playing doesn't it....

If I understand, playing the ipod with the engine off. Probably will play a lot longer than you would care to listen - what exactly do you have in mind??

With the new cars nowadays, the battery is becoming more and more critical. Even with everything off and key out, there's always keep-alive voltage running, like your "smart appliances" - anti-theft (radio and car), dig. odometer, etc. need power unless they all have non-volatile memory in their architecture.

Planning a party with your ipod? Only way to be exact would be to run it down and time it...

my battery will die in 30 mins playing my iPod with the display off on my headunit and a low powered sub connected. that's why I carry a portable car charger with me. I would have been stranded many times without it.

That sub eats up a lot of juice, not the ipod...

So a quick look around tells me that the iPhone uses a 1.4Ah battery. That lasts it for quite a while, depending on use, so the phone is pulling less than an amp of current.

The fit's battery is at least a 4.6 Ah battery (there's not a good conversion from cranking amps to Ah). Of course, its optimized for quick discharge rather than slowly putting out current. But still, the iPod shouldn't be the main draw on the current.

Still not clear on OP's intent? To hear ipod radio must be on. I'm guessing ipod is fully charged if it's been on usb. So it's the radio draw and/or sound system as nph pointed out.

An ipod itself uses next to no power. They run for hours on the tiny battery in the ipod so it can't drain the larger car batter much.

I forgot 1 single front some light on overnight for about 9 hours and battery was too weak to start car. Called AAA service to jumpstart. The guy said Dot's battery is small and impossible to find except by dealership.

Get a proper 12v deep cycle battery and hook it up when you do this. Normal car batteries were not made to be cycled in this manner ie. drained down, and recharged.

good idea about the portable car charger.... care to share what make and model of the portable car charger you are using..... I may plan to get one, similar to yours if possible because you have proven your portable car charger works for your FIT .. thanks

Battery

I've noticed on our 08' and 09' Fits that I am unable to charge anything when the keys aren't in the car. As far as batteries themselves go....the 09' Fit we own had to have it's battery replaced after just 1.5 years.....fortunately it was covered under the bumper to bumper warranty but we did some research and found that many of the fit batteries were failing early

Not true. Autozone and Pep Boys carry them except they cost more than the dealer's OEM. You can also upgrade to a bigger battery as some posters here have.

SHURIKEN SK-BT35 Battery w/ 35AH and 950 Cranking Amps | eBay

Miles better than the factory battery, and YES I have one and plan on buying a second to install in the hatch of my car for more battery reserve. They are small, and can be mounted any direction, and are a direct fit into the factory slot.

Here is a shot of mine, with the adding upgraded wiring I did.
