The Facts of Life About the Oil Change
wetphoto Tell me you bring it to wallyworld when you're there buying your castor oil.
Nah. I use mine for weed killer. Works great And while you turn your nose up at Wal Mart Castrol, I am laughing all the way to the bank with the money I save, over what you pay to Honda for their oil.
Apparently you don't know it, but Castrol from Wal mart is the same as Castrol from anywhere else. So keep the snooty attitude elsewhere. You just don't get it. The TOTAL cost of recycling needs to be considered, not just YOUR cost. And what SHOULD be done is a personal decision. You have not authority to tell others what they SHOULD do. You opinion only. Unproven, unverified, and untrained.
Keep your money and your walmart. You and the company that embodies all that is wrong with this country deserve each other.

Snooty attitude? LOL. If all you are about is Money and greed, the total cost of recycling is all you need to think about. you are correct there. congratulations! If there are other important things like passing on a cleaner "environment" (not just the trees, etc... but the environment for your children etc... to grow up in) and doing what is right, then cost becomes less of a factor. What "should" be done in this case is an opinion? That's like saying you "shouldn't" murder someone or you "shouldn't" take a 4 year old to a slasher movie. Dumping something toxic into the ground... not really an opinion thing. Then again, everything is an opinion if you are ignorant.
Crazy me... I recommend highly following the manufacturer... but by no means am I anyones bitch (well, I'm married but that's another topic). I don't "do as I am told", I listen to educated people who know more than I about a topic then make a choice based upon the facts presented to me. This is called making intelligent decisions.
That's great. Weed Killer... so you intentionally dump oil into the ground. Smart move.

Specboy, you were doing great until you indirectly referred to your wife as a "bitch". You've got the environmental stuff down, now let's work on this other issue....
By the way, it's interesting how a thread about oil changes turns into a lively debate! I love fitfreak!

Thanks. I wasn't going to claim it to be larger than I knew. Biggest in the world, huh? Employs a lot of people, not only in its stores, but in the producers who it buys from. I wonder how the OWS crowd would feel if all those hundreds of thousands, or maybe millions of people lost their jobs. Then they would be crying about that. The green weenies just don't get the big picture. It costs more, not only in money, but in resources and their beloved pollution, to make a hybrid and recycling in general. Just makes them "feel good". Oh well, they can go on their merry, ill-advised way.
Instead of name-calling, perhaps we could all acknowledge that the situation is very complicated. I shop at Wal-Mart and Target, and I recycle oil. I can't afford to shop elsewhere (and other options have been crushed by Wally anyway), but I also know that if I take used oil to the landfill or pour it in a street drain, it's going to get into the land and the water and dump its toxins.
Do what you can do.

Each do what they CAN, not necessarily what they WISH. It's a minor pain to, for example, recycle oil, but it's worth the trouble.
Recycling in general really is something everyone can do, and it actually does make a difference. Boycotting Wal-Mart? That's another story. In fact, let's make it another thread. Or not.

I'll go for the other thread idea. Oil discussions are probably the most hotly debated topics on any car forum. There are plenty of threads on this one that can be searched and resurrected if any one chooses to.
not sure wat the fuss is about recycling the old oil. just take it to a local autozone or any autoparts store and you can leave it near the front counter. unless their disposal tank is full they will take it no questions asked.
dont throw it out with other trash or contaminate your lawn with it. the oil will get into the underground water system eventually and contaminate it.
i even let the filter drip a good 15-20min before i toss it in the trash. i read somewhere that a gallon (4quarts) of used motor oil can contaminate as much as 1million gallons of fresh water.

I just can't resist! It's true that all 4 qts of oil don't reach the groundwater or the river or vegetable garden or whatever. If everyone thought that their little "oil spill" wouldn't make much difference, think about how much contamination there would be! However, if everyone decided NOT to dump their used oil, think about how much LESS contamination there would be! Ripples in the pond....we all can make a difference.
Sounds like you should be out with the OWS crowd, since you hate the biggest retailer in the country, which employs how many people? Murder is illegal, not a "should not do" thing. The "experts" you worship, like those from Honda, are not Gods. Honda has missed the mark in product development and engineering for a good number of years lately. (Look at the Insight, Crosstour, and CRZ) Hardly worthy of worship. Since you are obsessed with greed, perhaps you will not mind sending 50% of your money to me so that it can be "shared". While you run around with the greenie crowd, waste your money on foolish social agenda nonsense, I will do as I see fit, use MY experience, not marketing nonsense, and raise My family as I see fit, not as you and your crowd try to dictate.
No one is dictating how you should live your life outside of saying that you, along with everyone, should be both fiscally, and socially responsible. It's not marketing that dumping oil is bad.

You may have taught science (although that is hard to believe, given your views on dumping oil, for one thing), but you are no scientist.
You are the only one on this thread calling others names and making the discussion political, you may be sure everyone has taken note of that. And yes, Walmart is the Devil. Metaphorically speaking.

BTW, shredded paper is also good for weed control, applicable to flower boxes and veg plots.
