Cabin light out

Where do I get a replacement bulb and is this something I can fix on my own, or do I have to pay a mechanic to fix it? It's pretty annoying when I turn the car off and can't see anything, so I definitely want to fix it.
Has anyone had to replace the inside light before?

The top four causes of the cabin light failing to turn on are:

1) switch is in "off" instead of "door" position. Sorry but I had to mention it.

2) bulb is burned out (these last forever it seems). see below

3) fuse is burned out. see below

4) problem with the control module that switches the light. If it doesn't turn on even in the "on" position (switch on ceiling light) then it's 2 or 3.

If 2, the replacement is type 3022. Available at any auto parts store (and Honda). Just pry off the clear plastic cover from the rear using a small screwdriver or knife. It snaps back in place. The bulb simply pulls out.

If 3, you'll need to pull the fuse and inspect its filament and replace with the same type fuse (honda, parts store). Check the owner's manual (page 307-309. Hint: it might be fuse #29 "small light." cryptic japanese technical writers! If it burns out again there is a problem with the circuit, the dealer will have to troubleshoot.

If not 1, 2, or 3, it's probably "4." That's another dealer item.

edit: you can always pull into the service lane of your Honda dealer. If you chat up the service adviser he/she will probably do it for you.

Thank you

I will show my husband this when he gets home. I'm really hoping it works out to be as simple as the first option.

Even in door position, my dome light only comes on sometimes so I turn on the lights by the rear view and sometimes forget to turn them off. dealer says replace the base but not covered under warrantee even though I have the 120k mi one. How does the light know the door is open? Where is the switch?
