Idiot's will always try to cram their opinion down your throat passing it off as the truth. A wise man knows the difference between opinion and truth and in the end realizes it's always been a personal choice.

(OMG that was a bit righteous attitude of me, wasn't it?)

Facts and opinions in this thread are irrelevant. Idiots are idiots.

just trying to keep traditions like yours and mines going.. where manual cars are available for the future generation to learn and drive from.

Future generations are probably going to be direct drive. When was the last time you hand cranked a car?

I'm 16 (17 in a couple months) and I learned how to drive stick a week after I got my permit. Either way, like I said before, it depends on the driver. I personally don't mind having the auto over the stick, nor do I think that it is "terribly inefficient." My mileage so far has been about the same (auto a little better actually) and with how embarrassingly slow the Fit already is in a straight line, an extra second doesn't make a difference to me.

I feel like this thread is just beating a dead horse.

Well, just yesterday I traded 07 Fit LX auto for 2013 LX Manual, and I must admit I miss the serenity of auto transmission. Driving on the hwy was a shocker with all the engine noise and high RPMs. Honestly, if the dealer had the manual demo and I had tried it beforehand, I don't think I would buy the stick. However, the manual tranny is the most smoothest to shift and stabbing gas pedal on upshift is fun fun fun. I drove 2000 Civic stick for 9 years and it never felt so easy to shift. Revs up ever so quickly, if you like stop light racing. Wife likes it too but won't trade her ride for mine :-). Tough choice, but auto probably wins by a slight margin. Overall this car is a winner. BTW, I could not believe it comes without floor mats. I even went back to the dealership to check. Way to go, Honda Canada, our Toyota Yaris comes with 4 mats and hard cargo cover

But now you have all that frigging "control" that everyone driving an econo-box needs

When I bought mine, I got the manual mostly for financial reasons. But now that I am married, I wish I would have gotten an auto so that I could easily switch rides with my wife if I had to.
