mounting ring left on dash

hello-
i just bought a 2008 fit sport and the previous owner must have had a gps unit mounted on the dash via suction cup. there is an ugly ring left on the dash and it looks like some discoloration around the ring too.
any advice to fix this or at leasr clean the ring? thanks.

What kind of ring? Discoloration? Dirt? Oil?

pictures of the ring...

I am not sure what made the discoloration... but the last picture here shows that i could sort of scratch it away... not sure if i was scratching into the plastic though. Did it with my fingernail.

I would try a microfiber cloth with some warm water and soap on it. Ring it out good tho so it isn't dripping down your dash. Try circular motions. Then finish it off with a dash conditioner product.

Idk. It seems like the white is a residue and should come off with some soft scrubbing.

I would hit it with some 303 Aerospace Protectant... looks kind of like some oxidation.

I'd try that too. It looks to me like the previous owner was either a hand cream user who left a residue on the dash whenever they fiddled with the GPS - that should hopefully come off; or maybe it's some sort of "toxic sweat" from the previous owners hands - that could be more problematic as it might have etched the plastic. If mild soap doesn't work, try a dedicated product for cleaning car interior plastics.

If you don't have any luck with gentle cleaning attempts, you could consider covering the spot with a sticky pad, like this one:

Amazon.com: Handstands Super Size Sticky Pad - Black: Electronics

There are lots of sizes and brands of these. They are meant to hold cellphones, sunglasses, etc., but you don't have to attach anything to it if you don't want to. If you find the appearance with the pad acceptable, you could then also take more risk trying to clean your dash, because you'll have the pad to hide the spot if you make it worse.
