Best way to sell a Fit?

Hi Guys,

I bought a 2011 fit base in the Polished Metal Metallic, and I have had it a few months, it was purchased as a 2nd vehicle so it has less then 3500 miles on it, and I just find the seating a bit comfortable.

I just had sold my primary vehicle, and I fear if I attempt trading in a new vehicle they will ding me at least $4,000. What would people recommend in tho situation: ebay, newspaper, will this car be mush easier to sell cause its just a little bit off of what it would cost new with all the warranty and stuff in effect or will it be more difficult cause someone could just get a new one for not much more?

The bad thing is I added a navigation kenwood system, up graded the speakers and added a auto dimming rear view mirror with temperature. I still have the stock stereo, most dealership I know do not want aftermarket stuff in them if I did trade. Any input is appreciated. I would like to sell ASAP as now its my only vehicle and I don't care for the pain I am getting from it, I have tried different seating positions.

Thanks, Ron

The aftermarket stuff is a liability. Return it to stock and sell the navi unit, mirror on ebay if you don't need it.

I've had good success with AutoTrader. Craigslist was a pain; all it got me were offers to sell my car for me.

Ebay has many different models for selling cars. If I had one that was really unique I might go with Ebay.

The biggest hassle is if a bank has the note. If you owe money it may cut down on potential buyers who don't want to risk waiting for the title. "Clear title" is a good selling point. There are ways to broker it through a bank but it's still a hassle. Still I'd try it. Worst case is your out $40 or so for Autotrader.

Take lots of high quality pictures. Draft the text for your ad carefully.

You might not take such a big hit on a trade though. Talk to a dealer. Don't be afraid to negotiate. You can always walk away if it's less than you need; you're driving the transaction.

Craigslist. You should have ZERO trouble selling it. Especially if gas climbs another dollar before it crashes again.

Now is a GREAT time to sell fuel efficient cars.

And Craigslist is free.

Just use a little html to put lots of pictures up (don't use their standard 4 picture collage).

Take good pictures.

I suggest Craigslist as well.
Used Fits are at a premium & you should have no problem selling.
Be sure to deal only with local buyers and in CASH or go to their bank with them if you get a cashiers check.

Yup. Local only. There's no shame in signing the title INSIDE the bank's lobby right after you see the teller print their check.

Another thought-- you dealer may be interested in buying back the car. My dealer offered me a nice price for my 2010 last summer, but I like the car too much and am not in the market for another, nor did I want to increase or extend my car payments by getting a newer car.

First, check NADA, etc, and autotrader for current pricing on Fits. Now you know what your Fit can bring.
Your aftermarket additions aren't that much of a liability if they were done correctly. They are a liability to dealer but not to a direct buyer who would agree they are better than stock. Otherwise offer to reinstall the stereo stuff. Fender work or lowering is guaranteed no sale.
If you like your Fit other than poor seating check aftermarket seats. There are a bunch of really good ones and their cost will be a tenth of what you will lose in trade-in value on a 'new' car.
If you still want to sell check ebays classifieds which run in yiour area for no cost. Autotrader is next but you will pay for the ad. Price your Fit according to the 'books' and websites like autotrader being sure to account for mileage and list for about halfway between retail and wholesale. be sure to have backup people for safety, don't sell at night, and take only cash or verifiable cashier's checks. Its good to have the actual transfer occur at your bank, too.
good luck.
