Anywho. OP has probably gotten enough feedback, But I know a family of 4 that use the fit as their primary vehicle. The dad is about 6'3 300lbs, and the mom is probably 6' 250. They seem just fine.

Im 5'9 180, so I dont really have any issues myself lol, but Ive also had quiet a few 300lb+ people ride in my car, front and back, and they actually always mention how deceivingly roomy the fit is.

 

I think people shouldn't forget about the "maximum" weight capacity of the Fit. I have a 2012 Honda Fit Sport and the door jamb says that 850lbs. is the capacity. If you're around 300lbs and you have 3 other dudes that are 200lbs. You're already 50lbs over capacity, and that's without cargo. It goes without saying that expectations of safety, performance numbers, etc. all get thrown out the window when you reach overcapacity.


Someone please correct me if I am mistaken/incorrect.

 

I don't even know what to say, no wonder people say the Fit doesn't have really any performance with the weights being published here. Damn I'm not happy with my 148lbs and want to be back at 140. hahaha

Anyone over 6' could use a bit more leg room. I fit but wish the seat could go back about 2 inches further. Any mods for that? I am 6'3 btw.

 

Now you see my problem, being twice your weight

 

I have had myself (180), 3 guys at 200-220, and one guy at 160 in the car all at once. That was with my lowering springs and old wheels. I rubbed a little, thats about it. She actually handled the extra weight pretty well.

 

6'3" and 195, and very comfortable. I'd like to have another couple of inches of legroom, but I say that about every car I've owned.

 

OP hasn't been back since original post. Wonder if he decided to nix the Fit?

 

Sorry for the delay in responding back and thanking everyone for their feedback. I am still interested in buying the Fit, but a family member on my wife's side of the family was diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer and the timing is not right for a major purchase.

I did sit in a Fit and I did "fit" but I think I would not even notice if I lose another 40 pounds. I was surprised how roomy a tiny car could be. The only thing I don't like is that it seems like my butt is 3 inches off the ground, but I am sure will get used to it. Coming from a 4x4 and looking down on all the tiny people is how I roll.....for now at least.

I think I will be purchasing around late summer early fall. I know I will get hosed on fuel costs, but it is the choice I have to make.

Best of luck with you and the family. Choices aren't always cost-effective but it sounds like you are making the right one.

The Fit is a great car and hopefully some of the 0.9% apr rates will come around when you are ready to buy the car. many have gotten in on a great deal and saved some serious $$.
