pcv valve replacement question

pcv valve replacement question

can this be replaced without removing the intake manifold in a GE8?

yes...I have the same SM but i noticed even if you move the harness there isnt enough room for a combo wrench.....I'm about to go to Harbor Freight and see if they have an offset or flex head...

Picked up a flex head but still not enough room to turn it. Engine was hot so it was a pain but its looking like it might be easier to go through the bottom...top has no clearance unless one of you have a recommended tool...

Once you remove the hose, won't a socket fit over the valve? That's what I would try.

Malraux, you were right and I was an idiot to forget about deep wall sockets....standard sizes dont reach far enough.

on another note, I decided to replace when pinching the tube did not respond with an audible click. When looking at the old one, it was a bit oily which would have deadened the sound I guess....

Got lazy and failed to replace the tube but I'm going to take care of it now.

while articles on edmunds the thought occurred to me: could a catch-can help the fit? would it add to longevity by reducing some of the gum up that can stay within the crankcase?

I bring this up because most people and dealerships will overlook the pcv valve which will lead to increased pressure and crap floating around and not getting reintroduced in combustion. Would the placement of a catch can help?

I just finished mine, i used a 17 mm socket. To gain clearance, i just undid the wire harness, took out the dipstick, and unplugged whatever plug is beside the valve. You can only do 1-2 clicks at a time undoing it, but with paitents it comes off. Hardest part for me was cracking the old one loose. It was really siezed on there. But if you think that valve is hard to get to and has little clearance, try doing a spark plig job on the fit, its unreal.

PCV valve replacement

Thanks, this is an old post but it helped greatly . I just changed my pcv and it only took about 15 minutes. Pulling those 2 - 10mm bolts and moving the harness out of the way gives you plenty of room to get to the hose clamp and PCV. And yes at 92k the valve was getting sticky and not sealing well.
