So I've had this fuel smell coming into the cabin from the engine bay for about 1000k now. Went to the dealership and they could not find a fuel leak and believe it to be a fuel injector seal that is leaking and for me to monitor it

I've been watching it but see no fuel only a strong fuel smell...especially at idle. I've put the vent on recirc to avoid passing out but since I would like to figure this out without multiple trip to the dealership to play "throw parts at it".

The smell seems strongest by the passenger side of the engine bay and it isnt steady, the smells happens every half minute of so...

I've read some articles on other forums about the evap system or the egr valve and even the fuel cap (i'll check that tomorrow though I doubt it) the smell is around the front of the engine.

smell started after my valve adjustment which is when I brought it back ....

any advice on where to look for a leak? where can I find the evap canister?

oh another symptom that is off compared to my uncle's fit: occassionally under a brisk acceleration where I let of quick the engine will surge then cut back fast, and the short term trims will usually skyrocket from 8-10 to about 20-24 then back down to 4-10...

last my avg mpg according to fuelly is 19mpg!!!

 

Personally, I recommend you take you Fit to a trusted mechanic and have them readjust the valves. Having problems crop up like this right after doing the adjustment yourself is a bit too much of a coincidence.

And inspect the area around the valves for the fuel smell.

 

I'll pass on the valves since they were adjusted at the dealership and sound good.


While they feel it is the injectors do any of you know where the evap canister is? Tomorrow I'll clean the egr valve to see if that helps...
