I am looking at getting a Fit, but I have 3 medium sized dogs. Has anyone been able to fit one medium sized dog (lab sized) in the hatch with the seats up? That way I can put two in the back seat. Thanks!

 

I have two 55lbs English Bulldogs and neither of them would fit very comfortably in the small space once the seat is in the up right position. I can't even begin to imagine the heat build-up back there in the dead of summer.

A solution would be to install a barrier in the middle of the cargo space and keep the seats down. It's fully adjustable and easy install/remove on the fly.

Why would you do it that way vs folding the rear seats flat?

 

Not all dogs travel well together due to temperament or size difference issues.

I'd do a crate or two if you need to separate different dogs, but yeah, with the seats in the normal position, there's not a whole lot of room.

 

Dogs ive had in the car at one time; 46lbs australlian cattle dog mix, 24lbs mini austrailian sheppard (wifes pups), 65 lbs pitbull, 14 lbs poodle/yorkie mix, 6 lbs yorkie (wifes pups), 46 lbs boxer.

 

My Lab fits in the back with the seats up just fine.

 

My greyhound fits fine in the hatch with the seats up. If I need to carry 4+ people & the dog, this is the configuration I use.

I put a dogbed down in the hatch area for comfort.

 

Do it the Willard way- stick the suckers up on the roof.

 

Thanks! I have yet to test drive, but I figured one medium sized dog would fit in the hatch based on pictures. All of my dogs are used to tight spaces, so I'm sure it will be fine for short trips...

 

Mine just barely fits!

 

My 100lbs Ridgeback fits there. The whippets get the back seat. For long drives I drop the seats and everyone gets a bed.

 

I have the seats down all the time for my dogs. To help keep the back clean I use a double fitted black sheet over the seats and it goes all the way back and tucks in nicely.

Once a week I remove it and throw it in the wash!

 

better yet, dont put any animal in your fit. i walk away from every car that reeks of animal. the smell doesn't come out. i prefer the method of walking the dog on his leash while my lazy ass idles next to him in the car.

 

i fit 3 full size pure bred collies (90lb each) in the back of the fit with the seats down :P

 

A 65lb German Shepherd is ok back there, but I try not to take her in the Fit. I cannot brush or vacuum dog hair out of that poor excuse for carpeting.

 

lint roller the carpet first. works wonders :P

 

i feel ya.... whats worse is when the hairs start floating around to the front lol
.... the lint roller doesnt help with the thick, straight hair that stabs into the carpet

 

get better lint rollers..... i have 3 long haired pure bred full size collies - there's one store here that sells the stickiest lint rollers i've ever seen, and they work wonders.
