Valve Cover Gasket

Mileage: 35352

I recently took a long road trip (Lakewood, WA to Phoenix, AZ) in March. It took me 2 days to drive and I just had the oil changed before I shipped the car to WA. I haven't changed it since because I was going by the MM (40%). I just surpassed 7500 miles on my trip meter and decided that I would get it changed now instead of wait until what I figured would be 10k or more.

I took my 09 Fit Sport to a local shop for an oil change, brake fluid flush, and tire rotation because I didn't want to take it to the dealer. The mechanic told me the valve cover gasket was leaking. Is that normal for a car that's under 36k miles or is that possibly a result of not changing the oil sooner?

The leaky valve cover gasket should have nothing to do with not changing the oil sooner. Especially considering you changed it exactly when you should have (or even earlier than necessary depending on who you talk to).

What year is your fit? If it's an '09, my guess would be it was caused by the lost-motion spring recall job. The cover has to come off for that and the gasket may not have been reinstalled exactly right. If it's newer than '09 and you never had that service performed, it could be just a rare fluke. Shouldn't be a big deal to get fixed and hopefully is covered under warranty.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply. It's an '09 and I had the lost-motion spring recall job done in May of 2011. Since I had the work done at a place other than the dealer I believe I'll just have to ask for reimbursement if it's covered under the warranty.
