when does the vtec engage on the 2012 model mt ?

That is the optimum point for the switch over on this motor with the stock cam, intake, head and exhaust setup.

So no, not "late"

i read the earlier fits engage at 3500 ? so the two engines have many differences i guess.

Two completely different types of VTEC between GD and GE. Something else for you to look into in your spare time.

5400 is the VTEC crossover on the newer L15A. Just hook up an LED to confirm for yourself. Mine was lowered 100rpms with the J's reflash.
