New Fit Owner - 2012 Alabaster Silver
Hello everyone,
I'm now a proud owner of a brand new 2012 Honda Fit Sport
. I'm coming from a 2007 Volkswagen GTI. Don't get me wrong... I loved the GTI but the maintenance costs of a German car, on top of 92 Octane requirement and $69 oil changes started to weigh me down. I had hit the 86K mark and decided it was time to look at my options. Several of my friends have a Fit and they love it and so far I am thrilled myself.
Here are some photos from the dealer - I plan on getting window tint very soon and I am also looking at adding an aftermarket Nav eventually.

Glad to be here and glad to own a Honda again (my first car was an 89' Prelude)!

The sporty suspension is very nice on the Fit, I'm not missing anything in that department. I had the GTI in DSG with Paddle shifters and my Honda Fit Sport is also an Automatic. I've only had the car a few days but I do not miss the GTI at this point. Yes, the GTI was fun and has a lot of power/torque which is a lot of fun to drive, but after a couple years it wore off for me and I am looking at the more practical route. The cost of ownership of the GTI is not even comparable to the Fit. $500 Automatic flushes, $1000 timing belt changes, $70 oil changes, premium 92 Octane gas requirement. I had the A/C compressor go on me out of warranty and it was $1800 to fix. After that happened I asked myself - what would it cost if something ACTUALLY went wrong with the car? My advice is that if you are looking at a GTI get one with very low miles and trade before 100K so you can bypass the repair bills.... German parts are significantly more and it's hard to find anyone who will work on them at a decent price. Everything is marked up - it's a luxury car so expect to pay luxury costs in maintenance and repairs. The Fit is averaging at least 5-6 MPG better for me and I can use 87 octane. Every time I fill up I'm saving money. To top it off it has loads more room and space configurations than the GTI did. The Fit was just all around more practical for me and I plan to keep it for years to come.
@ doinkeroni: adding that chip will mess up your High Performance Fuel Pump among other parts in the car. I looked into it - it will reduce the longevity of other parts in your car and create a money pit over time. if you plan to have the car only a couple years it would be great because the next owner would deal with the consequences. It just depends on your priorities and how much money you want to spend on modding and maintaining. The GTI was great for me during the time of my life that I owned it, so don't get me wrong it's a great car. People rave about it. I just grew out of it and the Fit was where I ended up.

I feel you on german car maintenance issue. I'm coming from 06 330i. My last repair put $1350 hole in my pocket. Had to buy new wiper motor and get new valve cover gasket. I sold it last month privately instead of trade in. Used the positive equity towards downpayment for my new fit. Will get the car in couple of days.....
