2009 Fit Engine Shuts Off While Driving

A few years ago my engine would randomly shut off while I was driving. I had to shift to neutral and then restart the engine and continue driving. It hasn't done it since then but I have always been curious why it would happen. I noticed a discussion on Car Talk's website about a guy with a Malibu that has the same problem. Respondents said it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Here is the link to the Malibu with the same problem I had.

Link to the Honda Fit Camshaft Position Sensor. Does anyone know where this is located on the vehicle?

Thanks for the help!

Yes I did. Thank you for posting that link. I thought the recall was just to protect the valves from being damaged and didn't know stalling was a symptom of the poor quality springs.

It would be throwing codes if sensors were bad.

I'd suspect a faulty ignition switch if it's cutting out at random times with no code.

My '97 Odyssey was recalled for just this problem.

I think Steve244 has got the right idea.

I had the exact same issue with another one of my past hondas. (not my fit though) However, for me, the root cause was the ignition system. My mechanic, who immediately suspected the ignition system, replaced it for a couple hundred and the problem never appeared ever again afterwards. (I've forgotten if he replaced the entire thing or parts of it. might have just been the ignition switch)
