ProClips: Expensive plastic

I have a Bracketron Universal Grip-It Vent Mount that I am 'ok' with it. My only issue is that it the part that attaches to the vent, flops around a little. I'd like to use something that is a little more firmly mounted.

Came upon the ProClip mount that seemed exactly what I was looking for. I figure I'd remount the Bracjetron holder to it. But $30 for a piece of plastic! Seems excessive?

Anyone have any experience with the ProClip?
Find an inexpensive source?
Am I nutz and $30 is really worth it?

They used to be the big name, but these days they just seem too overpriced. I never had one myself but from a few people I know that have had them over the years, they were good quality. Personally I have always preferred to use a beanbag mount that sits on the dash.

ProClips makes good quality- I have used several different designs of their brackets and device holders. But for my '09 Fit Sport, I use a beanbag holder for my GPS. The GPS is easier to see in the little valley between the stereo and the gauge housing than it was mounted with the ProClips bracket on the windshield "A" pillar. A beanbag mount would cost less than a ProClips bracket and device holder combo. But unless you have a dash cover, use some sort of "sticky pad" under the beanbag, otherwise it might slide around on sharp turns. Just ask member "Goobers". He didn't use a sticky pad, and sent his beanbag and GPS unit right into the passenger door and floor.

The beanbag mount has an additional advantage. When you park your car, you can just unplug the GPS, pick up the beanbag and GPS as a unit, and hide it under the back of the driver's seat. It is invisible to thieves, and easy to pick up and replace on the dash when you are ready to leave the parking lot.

I have proclip stuff in all three of my cars. It doesn't "flop around" like the cheap stuff. It isn't cheap to stock custom stuff for most all cars and devices. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I can afford Proclip.

I've got the plastic base that goes over the center vent and the iPhone 3GS mount. The base is made of fairly thick plastic. It fits really snug and they attach by means of adhesive. My setup has been on for over a year and it's still rock solid. It's expensive but I'm happy with the results.

I agree with this. The one thing I wish the ProClip had was a way to detach it and hide the mount. Keeping the interior looking completely free of mounts makes it less inviting for smash & grabs.

I have the a-pillar mount. Very sturdy. Thinking about mounting an ultragauge to it now that I have a new phone.

Sounds like maybe the ProClip is worth it. Before I go off and try to find one on the "interwebs", anyone have a center-mount for sale?

As far as quality, fit and finish, ProClip products justify the price. I bought the very first ProClip "A" pillar mount for my new 2009 Sport, and it did not fit properly. Was too loose and did not grip the pillar properly. I used a heat gun to bend the jaws a little closer together and that fixed my immediate problem, but then I called the company and complained about the mis-fit.

They called me back the next day and said that they tested and verified that the new bracket was not made properly. After month to re-tool their mold, they sent me a replacement bracket, as well as the new center-mount bracket. I use the center mount to hold my Scan Gauge.

I no longer use the "A" pillar mount for my GPS because the bean-bag dash mount for the GPS keeps it almost in my line of sight, and I don't have to look away from the windshield to see the GPS over in the left corner.

Whatever you buy from ProClip, it won't break, fall apart, or cause damage to your car interior parts.
