'12 Fit, first maintenance question
Why spend more $$$ for oil when it is still acceptable for its intended purpose?
The hardest part about "Extended Service Intervals" for motor oil (and accepting a 12K miles OCI in my case) is getting the old and highly effective "Change Your Oil Every 3,000 Miles" ad campaign out of your brain.
It is just an unnecessary waste of oil and money. As a scientist, I operate on data (from my laboratory used oil analyses (UOA), not oil-company marketing drivel)

Good info
Man you guys drive conservative
on my 12 Fit I was at 15% at 4500 miles and did first change.
I went to around 5K for the second change and I'm currently at 16K and about to do the third with the mm showing 5%
I check my oil at every fill up and I'm not burning a drop and the oil is a nice caramel color.I went full Mobil 1 syn Ow20 after first change.
I do hard break in on all my new cars and it has worked well for me so far.

The algorithm the maintenance minder uses to determine oil life is a combination of revolutions and engine-temperature/time. Running at operating temperatures boils off contaminants that would remain in the oil over short trips where the engine never really heats up. There may be other factors but these are two I remember in Honda's literature.
Your typical old lady who only uses it to make 2 mile grocery runs is actually severe service. Driving it hard is not. At least in terms of oil life.

And there aren't that many engine revolutions per mile driving 3000 rpm in top gear, vs. how many engine revolutions it takes to go a mile when you start and stop a lot, like in city driving using all the gears over and over again.
For what it's worth: First oil change coming up. At the one year mark for my 2012 Fit Sport manual, and at 8,777 miles, the 15% wrench has just appeared. I'll be changing oil (Castrol Syntec Edge 0w-20) and filter this weekend.
Happy Holidays to all!

Lol sloppy you said it.
I'm just so used to changing my oil ever 3-3500.
I remember my buddies dad not believing the recommended intervals lol he went from owning nothing but Chevys to a driveway full of Hondas and Acura

My first oil change will be this Saturday...I think. It's ticked off 10% every thousand miles. As I'm writing this, I'm at 9990 odometer, still showing 20%.
95% of my driving is highway, averging 35-40 miles at a time.
