Center Console conversion from USDM to EDM

I have always found the cup holders in the console under the dash to be a bit usless & annoying. Having seen some EDM Jazz's and their set up, I have wanted to convert over to this spec but had not found a source for part #'s or to order, until now.
A few weeks ago, ampete04 put up a thread about finding an EDM iVTECH emblem. He included a link to a UK Honda dealer.
Looking over their web site, I found the parts I would need, and that they listed the parts in several currencies (Pounds, Euors & US Dollars). After a couple of emails I determined that they could fill my request & ship to the US.
The parts I wanted were these:
They are #'s 5 & 7 in the diagram.
Part # 5 they told me would have to to be ordered from Japan and could take up to 8 weeks. They actually got it in less than two, then a week after that, USPS delivered this:

Inside were these:

Here is your standard USDM console/cup holders:

And what you find when you pull it out- as you can see, part of the storage cubby to be is already there, under our cup holder:

Installing was easy, it snaps right in. Took me longer to take the photos that it did to install.

Add in the second part:

And we are done.
Parts cost was about $30.00.
Here is the link to the supplier:

Nice find! The cupholders are a little bit of a pain to get cups in and out of. This looks like a nice upgrade.

They are a pain. If you have anything plugged into the 12 v outlet, you can't put a travel mug in there, and it is so down low you are fumbling around trying to get one in/out as you are trying to keep your eyes on the road! IF I am driving with a travel mug, I keep it in the holder on the upper left by the vent. My driving instructor (when I was living in the UK) hammered into my head "both hands on the wheel, both eyes on the road" idea which has stuck with me ever since coming back to the USA.

Good thread! Just from "human interest", how did you learn to drive in the UK and wind up living in Martinez, CA? You can reply, if you feel like it, via PM. but I am interested.

Dad was an engineer for Bechtel Corp, was on a project for Saudi Arabia working out of the company's London office. We lived in the UK for almost 5 years. This was back in the mid-late 70's. Learned how to drive RHD. Was quite a change to get used to LHD we we came back home! SF Bay area has always been "Home Base", family's lived here since the late 1880's.

Thanks! Your user name suggests an older "codger" than your user name suggests. You have a unique, and interesting history.

Your history is very similar to mine. My father was an engineer with Reynolds Aluminum and we were all transferred from Arkansas to Venezuela back in 1968 and ended up living there for 11 years.

People still get confused as to where I'm from because I learned English and Spanish at the same time so my Spanish is as good as my English....if not better.

Oh, and I now live in Massachusetts!

Plug in a phone charger, then try to put a cup in front of it. Its useless.

I get the same thing sometimes- the little bit of an "English" accent is long gone, but I have retained the speech pattern, so from time to time I get a "where are you from?" look!
And I left out the 10 months prior to landing in the UK - Indonesia! Jakarta & East Borneo. Now that is a story in itself!

Thumbs up

I bought my "JDM center console cupholders" from japanparts a little while ago, actually emailed them to add it to their list, but they only added it to the customer request item list.

I knew before buying it that it would increase the space behind the pockets/change holder, but wow.... in comparison, the USDM one really cuts a lot of room (height) out.

So far so good, but I notice that once in a while I tend to knock the pocket section off, might add some 3M tape if it becomes an issue.
