valve chatter and A/C fan..

Tried to post this last night but the server this site runs on is crap lol.

I have 30k miles on my manual '13 sport but I have noticed these two issues since I bought the car with 12 miles on it. In 1st and 2nd gear under light loads I hear tons of what sounds like as valve chatter, is this something you guys hear also?

When I am at a complete stop (usually notice it when I am in fast food drive-thrus) and the AC is on the fan turns on for 10 seconds then off for 10 seconds then back on then back off and it does this until I start driving again. I hear the click of it turning on then a click turning off. Again...is this something you guys have noticed? Other cars I have owned have done this but not every 10 seconds.

I am going in for an oil change and probably new brake pads this weekend, I just wanted to run this by the forum first before I ask the dealership.

Anyone else pissed that Rotiform stopped making 17s?! I was throwing money at them and they wouldn't take it.

My valves clatter in every gear and I'm currently fighting my dealer to adjust them at 14k miles on my '13. The defrost/ac fan constantly kicks on and off which is pretty annoying but normal in every fit I've owned or been in.

Thanks for the info. I thought I remember seeing valve adjustment on the 30k service but I could be wrong. I thought only s2000's needed that done early. Usually it's a 75k service.

Actually valve adjustment isn't called for until 100k mile service. I hear it some under light loads and I just adjusted them myself not long ago. Adjusting them helped, but I think it is just the nature of the motor. I would adjust them yourself if you really think it needs it. The dealer that did my leaf motion recall, screwed up the adjustment 3 times before getting it right.

I bought my '13 new. It now has 12k miles on it. It is far and away the noisiest engine that I have ever owned. I can hear my valves at 30+ mph, even with the radio on. My dealer insists that it is normal. When I asked them to request that a field rep come down and look at the car, Honda's reply was that if the dealer says it's normal, then it's normal.

I'm subscribing to this thread, and I hope that we get more comments about this (non)issue.

Ok, if you can hear it over your radio at 30mph, then that is not normal. Is it only when cold or all the time? Mine pretty loud when cold, but after it warms up, the noise pretty much goes away. It sounds like my car after I got the leaf motion spring recall. When I was driving it home I could hear it over my radio. I had to keep taking it back until they got it right. At least my dealer admitted that it was an issue though.

The spring you speak of was an '09-'10 recall item. My car is '13.

I understand that. The moral of the story was that the dealer f'd up the valve adjustment which was part of the recall. At that time I could hear the valves while driving (as you can now) and it wasn't normal.

The second moral of the story was that my dealer was largely worthless and often you are better off just doing something yourself than messing around with a dealer.

I would either try another dealer or visit this threadhttps://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...nce-check.html and do it yourself.

^^Understood.

Full disclosure: Honda said that I could go to another dealer and see if their diagnosis would be any different. I seem to recall that even my dealer suggested going to another dealer. I wish I had time to chase all of this down, but I do not, and going to another dealer would cost me a day and a rental car charge.

I dislike dealers as much as you apparently do. Generally, I do all of my own car work. I went to the dealer mostly to get on record for warranty purposes.
