valve tick
valve tick
I had put my car in teh driveway idling for a couple of minutes, when i returned the car was ticking very lightly. My car has jsut over 1000 miles on it a sport auto. And before you ask, yes there was someone in the car. I also own a 1991 mazda miata. If my mazda was making this noise I would be scared. Is this a characteristic of this motor, or of honda's? This is my first honda. Thanks for the opinions.

alright, so it is just at idle, not even noticable unless you listen for it. I am used to my miata that drinks oil like there is an abundant supply, and tells me when to add:-D. Good to know it is normal. Thanks

i too have had teh valve train/injectors tick....quite when warming up.....at idle and running temp its noticeable but car runs great (pulls hard when asked too and gets 34mpg city when im tame with it.....) so im not worried about it.
Guys, My Fit has the same tickling noice while in idle. I've just had my Fit checked on this issue today from the dealer. They said it is the valve making that noice, and it is normal. But I will keep an eye on it.
i know this is a way dead thread, but worth opening back up, hows everyones motors sounding now? i did a valve adjustment because of the ticking, valves were out of spec, but it still ticks like it did before. i used an automotive stethoscope and took a listen on the valve cover, very slight ticking....then i put it on the injectors...loud ticking. and my motor now has 35k
I switched our Fit Sport to Pennzoil Ultra oil and it runs like a freaking Singer sewing machine now. It ticked a bit before, but now it is really, really smooth and quiet. It starts easier, is quieter, and actually revs much better. Really highly recommended if you want to quiet the car down and run a really good synthetic. Wal Mart just dropped the price down to $25 for the 5 qt. jugs too. I would still use the Honda OEM oil filters though.
I own a relatively new 2010 Fit Sport, it now has a little over 4000 miles on it. I'd say when I first got it and for the first 2000, 3000 miles I was very concerned about valve tick and engine noise at idle.
It seemed loud to me, louder than my previous vehicle which was a 1993 Honda Accord.
Now, I can't honestly say that part of it isn't just my own adjustment as driver/owner BUT I would say that since about 3000 miles onward, it seems to me the car engine has broke in, and is idling smoother and ticking less.
I don't run premium gas, but I do purchase from "Top Tier" stations.
Infact, I did take mine to the dealership and mentioned the valve tick, not because I had hopes they could fix it, but I did want it noted IF I had a problem down the line. The dealership (of course) told me it was "normal". I drove with the attitude that if it got worse? It was a problem. My observation, has been that as the engine has broke in, the tick has decreased. So you might want to have it officially documented and checked, but then just relax and see how it goes for the next few months.
It drove me nuts at first, but now whether IT has gotten significantly quieter or I've adjusted to the sound or a combination of the two, it does seem to me much better at 4000+ miles than it did when I first got it.

My '07 has about 50k on it now and the engine makes that ticks, the only time it gets quieter is when the oil is fresh.. and I use AMSOil 100% Syn. 0W-20.
But my motor has always made that noise. It now has an intake/header/cat-back now.. and still makes the noise, maybe even louder :/... Still getting 28~34mpg everyday.
