Air Intake Vents and Water

I was reading the owner's manual and noticed the intake vents were right under the windshield. Wouldn't it be easy for water to seep into them when it's raining or when washing the car? I recently washed the car and didn't even pay attention to them and I'm sure I sprayed water in that area to remove all the suds from the windshield.

The car designers were smart enough to make that impossible. The dash air intake vents are above the lowest point of water at the low point of the windshield glass. Just don't drive your car completely underwater.

I thought so too. There is no way they would connect the intake to an upward facing vent outside the car. looking in the hood, the vent is in no way connected to the intake. Just freaked out when I saw the manual. Lol.
