Welcome to Fit Freaks and congrads on your soon to be car. I made the deal on my Fit Sport in 2007 and of course they would not lower the price. Got mine for 17001.00 out the door - As for the salesman I knew more about the car then he did. Ask to see the engine it drives them nuts when a female comes into the dealership and seems to know what she wants.

Before dealing for your Fit, look at the posts abouit what peole are paying. Be sure to see if it includes sales tax, and what %.
Also, if you know what model, color, trans, you want, and they don't have it, tell them to find one.
We dicked around with the prices, and I finally said, I wanted a Base, polished metal metallic, with manual trans, and said I would pay $17,000 including sales tax (7%) and every other fee they had.
After bringing the sales mgr. in on it, they said ok. They had to locate the car. There were only 4 in the state at the time. 2 days later I picked up the car.
Oh yeah, I also told them, if the car had any advertising decal on it, I wouldn't take it!
Sometimes when you have them locate a car, it will have some additional options. Just say you are not paying any more. most likely they will let you slide on paying for them, unless they can find a car without them.
Also, if you really have to have an auto trans, tell them you want a stick. They most likely won't have one on the lot, and will offer an auto for $400 more than the stick price. That happened to me. Still wanted the stick.
Good luck
And if you want a Base, manual trans, with no options, don't pay more than $17,000 out the door!

Also you have a pretty sweet bargaining chip with your phone. you can look up car prices on it and push them down on it. I paid 17500 for my 2010 Sport AT with 19500 miles on it.

Im 23 and also am an insurance agent and the insurance went up 20 bucks from my 2004 Kia Optima to the Fit. Just call your insurance company/agent today and get a quote on what it would look like to change from your current car to the Fit sport and the base for the difference.

Last piece of advice, stay on your parents insurance as long as they will let you you pay, they pay, either way it will almost always be cheaper for you

Woo, nice to meet another female Fit Freak! I just got my Fit on Tuesday and I'm not sure about modding it yet. I'm a software engineer and electronics hobbyist so technical stuff doesn't scare me but I've never done work on cars at all and have no equipment for it.

Anyway, stay strong with the sales people and good luck! I know for me it helped tremendously that I had done a lot of research beforehand on price, options, the extra crap they try to get you to add when closing the deal (extended warranties, weather protection, gap coverage)... I recommend skipping them all. I ordered the stock Honda accessories I wanted afterward on Amazon for less.

I can tell you're just as excited as i was about getting your Fit and as tough as it will be to not buy from the first dealership you go to, try to visit a few and shop around for the best price.

Again, good luck!

Nice post!

As a software engineer and electronics hobbyist you may have more in common with the Fit than you think. Cars today are a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controller_Area_Network. The holy grail of Fitdom is finding someone who has reverse engineered the engine control module (at least the current generation) and provide an appropriate interface to overwrite Honda's code. Short of that there are a lot of fun options for lighting and sound upgrades. Check out the In Car Electronics (I.C.E) forum. Mind the clutter.

woahamie, here's more on the F&I guy. Best wear garlic when visiting his lair. Let us know how your close encounter went.

Okay guys, so I just got back from the first dealership and they offered me $3,400 for my 2003 Honda Civic, and $189 a month for a 2013 Honda Fit (Sport trim). I found it to be an awesome deal. What do ya think?

Need more information on the trade-in (miles, model, condition) and the Fit (auto, manual) and what amount you're paying after trade and everything to form an opinion.

The monthly payment is a function of amount, months, and interest rate. If you can provide months and rate it's possible to calculate the purchase amount from the payment.

2003 civic. 61,000 miles. pretty good condition. just a large dent on the side.

trading in for a A/T sport Fit. no down payment. just the trade in. got it appraised for $3400

What interest rate for how many months are they giving you on the loan?

$3400 for the Civic seems right based on an EX automatic Coupe in "average" condition (edmunds appraised value).
