buying a new 2012 sport for $17834 out the door
I went to a dealer and surprisingly they still had 2012s in stock, two of them. I got the dealer down to 17834 out the door for a sport model. This is the first dealer I contacted all the other dealers in the area to see if they can beat the price and I got laughed at. Do you see the dealer coming down from 17834 anymore? Keep in mind this is in CA where the taxes are higher.
If this is for a A/T that's a good deal but if manual I would try to get them to go lower.
I see 2013 Sport manual with msrp of $17,950
They really play hardball here in California because of the high gas prices and demand for cars like the Fit.I would try to get them to knock off another $500.00 on OTD
Be prepared for all the tricks like them making up any discount they give you by add on's and extended warranties and paint sealer, scotch guard etc
Stick to your guns and don't be afraid to walk away if they dont budge

OP, sounds like a reasonable price OTD. Bottom line is: Do you want it? Do they have what you want? If your answers are not yes to both, then you can take your time and play the wiggle game all you want.
Best deal is if you get what you want. Worst deal is you got something you didn't want.
Good luck!

It is funny how some areas you cannot find a Fit or have to pay a higher price. I was at the dealer two weeks ago and they had 7 on the lot including 3 manual transmissions (2 black and 1 white). A year ago I could not get a manual in the color of my choice.
If you really want the car and no other dealer is willing to price match or beat it I would think you are getting a good deal.

I think that is a generous offer for the Automatic Fit Sport, If it was a manual, I would shop around some more.
Automatic: MSRP is what 18750+ttl , and your paying around $16500 + ttl.
with 8%+ tax tittle License and all the other dealer fees for that price is pretty good.
I would double check with the dealer that the quote you got is for the Sport model and not the base.

According to Edmonds the TMV on a Sport automatic is $18,570 and that would be plus TTL. Our tax is 6.25% plus the rest of the fees so around 7.5% total. That would mean that here you'd be paying about $16,600 for the car or about $2k off sticker. Considering invoice is only a few hundred below sticker that seems like a very good deal already. If they take your counter offer great, if not, if you like the car, buy it and be comfortable with getting a very good deal.
