Replacement brake pads

Odd that there isn't a generic topic on this already (or I can't search worth crap), but its' that time...

After 92,xxx miles, it's time to change my disk brake pads. The stock ones that came on the car have served me fine, so I don't see much need to look for something different. I was going to order a set from College Hills Honda, unless someone were to convince me otherwise - either better performance/same price, or better price/different dealer.

I've changed pads many times on other cars, but never on my Fit...any tricks, advice, pointers, etc.?

Thanks ya'll!

There are several brake pad threads funny enough in the BRAKE forum.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I should explore this forum more!

I just log in directly to the 2nd Gen section and typically don't see any other sections.... Odd though that the search for "brake pads" pulls up several non-related topics scattered throughout the entire forum.

Thanks - heading over there now!

If stock worked fine, then I would stick with stock. They'll probably last longer than some of the performance brands anyway. I would do the rotors at the same time. Easy peasy to do. Unlike my Land Cruiser...

I wasn't too impressed with the AZ Duralast Gold pads. On just about every single one I've owned, they caused rotors to "warp." Never had a problem with Axxis, Hawk or OEM. Lifetime warranty is good, but I stay clear of those personally.

Do you really need to resurface the rotors when changing brake pads? I'm thinking of just swapping hawk pads and be done. Eventually get a set of hawk quiet rotors.

You don't necessarily have to resurface rotors. The idea is to match the surface of the pads to the rotors. If you're using old ones, it's harder to match the grooves and such. New or resurfaced are easier, since you're starting with a flat surface. This is also why the "break in" procedures require hard braking (to mate the surfaces).

But I've never had good luck with resurfacing. And they're so cheap that I just buy new ones. Unlike their pads, I have had really good results from Duralast rotors (NOT Valuecraft--avoid those like the plague). I believe they were $70 for two, the last time I bought them. Replacing is a cinch.

Tip: If the rotor screw doesn't come out, watch ETCG Youtube video on how to remove the screws. I've used the double hammer method followed by impact driver (not wrench) to remove the stuck screws.

I used Honda pads and brembo solid rotors, as the rotor had a deep groove.

new rotor screws part #: 93600-06014-0H
Honda pads: 45022-TK6-A00
Brembo rotor: W0133-1784756.

Thanks for the link - I priced them and College Hills Honda - Curry Acura was about $1 higher...until CHH adds in about $15 shipping! Great deal from Curry with the free shipping.

Thanks again to all ya'll (that's plural here in TX) for your help and advice.

Those screws serve no purpose. Just there at assembly to hold the rotor in place. Your wheel holds it in place, so no need for it. I would NOT replace them. Stubborn ones in the past, I just drilled out. Lot easier than messing with impact driver and hammers.

If you want to replace them, for some weird OCD reason, smear a glob of anti-seize on the screws.

There are many aftermarket pads available for less than Honda prices; but for our shop we install Hawk HPS simply because our customers don't drive like they are texting.
If you've changed disc brake pasds before you'll have no problem with Fit.
PS note the disc spelling, not disk, when you search here for the thousands of posts on replacement pads.

Hence the need for a Forum Reorganization PRIOR to the 3rd Gen coming out. All generation information should be lumped in one location, not by topic.

As for the Pads and rotors, I'd do both since it is only the front rotors. Resurfacing is tough these days as the rotors are usually fairly thin and don't have much material to remove. plus, doing so makes them even thinner and more succeptible to warping (and sooner need to replace them and the pads again.)

I've ordered from rockauto before and got high quality rotors for cheap. as for getting out the screws that hold the rotors, get a slightly larger screwdriver bit and then hammer it into screw, then use a socket wrench to crack the screw. (or the next time the fit is at the shop with the wheels off, have the shop "Crack" the screws for you.

Personally, I think the brakes on these little cars are weaker than watered down PBR.
But that's just my take on things.
Stick with stock if you liked them though.

rotor diameter

anyone know what the front rotor diameter is?

I have a EU model Fit in the US, need to replace pads and rotors. already have the pads, rotors are pretty expensive to ship from the EU.

AFAIK, the rotor diameter for the EU version is 258mm (see the link for exact specs
