help A/C smell

Hi

I have 2010 fit sport auto with 33000miles on it.
I drive about 1000miles a week...

I get old swimming pool smell from the A/C whenever I hit the gas pedal..

Does anyone know whats wrong with it?

I will be taking it to the dealer in couple days, but I like to know before I go to stealership....

Try replacing the in cabin A/C filter. It's on the upper side of the A/C blower unit you can get to it by dropping the glove box door.

There are a few threads on how to do it .... have a look around.

There are some other threads about musty A/C smell. In my case I finally figured out that the evaporator core was freezing up. I didn't realize this for real until I had the car on a long distance trip. But I wonder if it was happening on shorter trips, which meant that the moisture in the A/C was freezing up, then melting, and that's what was causing the musty smell. The dealer just figured out that I was low on refrigerant, and flushed and refill the system. I've seen others report the same thing. Regardless, try running the fan with the A/C off for a few minutes before turning the car off to dry everything out and see if that prevents the musty odor.

I did this last night and I'm not mechanically inclined in the least. Won't take even five minutes.

Empty the compartment first or your crap spills all over the floor. That's about the hardest part of the whole process.

What I did to reduce the moldy like smell:

When you have cabin filter out, spray Lysol like disinfectant into the blower( i.e. spray into where the filter was) while you have the A/C on with fresh air. To prevent wetting too much, spray for about 10 sec, wait 30 sec and repeat. When done, put in the cabin filter and with A/C on, but with air on recycle, change the temperature setting to max heat. This is to help dry the evaporator core. Keep it on for a while, then turn off the A/C, change to fresh air, and keep the heat on for a while.

I do this whenever wife complains about "weird" A/C smell.

and leave it on "fresh air" when you park it. "recirculate" doesn't allow the evaporator to dry out as well. Mildew loves warm wet places.

thank you everyone for help.

When I bought mine at 30k miles, it already had new air filter...

I think something in the pipe getting freezing too...feels like my nose gets freezes whenever I smell this..

Hopefully Wed trip to stealership fixes the smell..

If not, should I put carbon air filter?
