Air Silencer Intake
#3
Air silencers just provide ride comfort for the driver and in my experience, just make the vehicle sound cheaper when removed. While I can appreciate an appropriately modded car that makes some extra noise as a result of it, I prefer my Fit to be as quiet as possible. My project next summer is to dynamat underneath the carpets and spray sound deadening in the fender wells to make highway driving to visit in-laws across state more bearable.

You might find this thread interesting and helpful. There are several different parts/methods that the guys in that thread used to make DIY intakes. I went with the cone style filter and cutting out the MAF sensor tube method that Lyon describes. I really enjoy the DIY intake on my 2012 Sport Auto. It's nice and quiet, barely louder than stock, when your just driving normal/easy. But, it sounds kind of like a racecar when you get on it and really wind up the engine. I know most people say that the computer "learns" the new, less restrictive intake and negates any power gains that may have been achieved. But, mine really does feel like it has a little extra power with the intake. It may just be the fact that it sounds more powerful though.
There are several ways to do a DIY intake, including buying a replacement air box lid which is what I did, so that you can easily just switch it back to stock later if you get tired of it or decide to sell the car.
