Winter is coming.....and new sounds emerging!?!?

Hello everyone,

Wanted to ask about this sound that has just started happening when I start the engine in the morning.... after the engine cranks and turns over, there is a whirring noise, not so much grinding as something spinning or tappping....after that it won't occur again until the following morning.

Any ideas on what this might be? with 107k on the odometer, I'd rather tackle any issues before it gets any colder...

Thanks everyone. Enjoy your weekend.

-Dave

My car makes a similar noise. Others here speculate it's the injectors, and I'm going to agree with that. It goes away after a mile of driving. My 09 had been making that noise since new on cold mornings.

My car has started making a noise on cold mornings not from the engine but sounds like a whine from the power locks when the car shuts off and the doors unlock. Notice this last year but seem to disappear when the weather turn warmer.

It may also be the antilock brake system getting itself primed. That sounds like a pump running for a second or two or three. I believe the noise is actually a brake fluid return pump operating. When the ABS system activates, the pump comes on, and various solenoid valves control/divert the brake fluid to modulate the brakes.

weirdest part is that no codes are being thrown...the Ultraguage is supposed to have a feature that alerts you to pending codes and none are being read...

I have family over today so I'll get one of them to start the engine while I record and post the link for it here in a few.

Thanks to those who put in their opinion, hopefully the recording can get more people involved.

dangonit!

Of course it didn't happen today with two cameras recording...

I did fill up at a Quickcheck last night to fill up from my previous fill at a WaWa's...

could gas be an issue? I always thought these chains get gas from the same distributors....
