Dealer recommends combustion chamber cleaning

the service dept. at my honda dealer says they recommend a combustion chamber cleaning every 40,000 miles.... for the low low price of $155.

my question is, are combustion chamber cleanings worthwhile?

and is there any reason to have honda do it for $155 vs. an over the counter cleaner for $15?

Wow.....never go back there. Combustion chamber cleaning? Every 40k? Really? I understand dealerships have to really reach for profits but that is ludicrous. They obviously only care about $$$.

i dont find the mileage unreasonable... it's the price that is absurd.
these are the same people that charge $100 for cabin filter + installation.
a trained monkey could install it in 2 minutes.

do over the counter. You can probably acheive good results with just a good fuel injector cleaner product, like redline si-1; amsoil PI, gumout regane, or a couple doses of the good chevron techron

40k miles?

Maybe run a Seafoam treatment at 100k right before you change your plugs. It's $10.

For that price they should pull the head and clean everything

Seems like a good deal if you make sure the dealer uses his own toothbrush.

Do they change the air in your tires at the same time or is that a separate charge?

When they get done, how do you know that they did anything? Do they give you the old parts back?

LMAO damnit I was just about to post that. As was mentioned, Seafoam treatment works great, and a lot of people also love the BG products, but they can be hard to come by.
