The Nanny in the Computer
No secret that was a snowy, cold, icy mess out here in the country last week. Did I mention cold? Of course the TPS light came on when cold air reduced tire pressures.
I did not realize it, but you cannot turn off the traction control/VSA when the TPS light is on. Of course the one air hose in town was frozen solid.
VSA made it very difficult to rock the car out of whatever I got stuck in on the snow and ice. Heck, it's 500 feet from the house to the road. Just turning around to leave got me stuck. I get it that low tire pressures cause problems in vehicle stability. Getting stuck in the snow with the traction control/VSA going berserk causes problems, too, particularly when it way below zero.
I'm going to go to Harbor Freight and buy a cheap air tank. I'm a big fan of VSA and understand that it is a great thing for auto safety. That's why I bought the car I have. But—it's my car. I should be able to turn it off when I need to.
Cheers.
