Nexus 7 for a headunit

So was throwing around installing a touchscreen headunit. Really wanting it to mirror some of the basics from my android phone. After checking out the options I ended up looking at a 500$ pioneer double din. Still didn't work great with my phone and quite slow... so this had me thinking of installing a tablet in my dash to replace my radio. Has anyone done this? Photos to post? Advice for a first timers go at this?

Current plan is a Nexus 7 (2013) black 32gb with a Metra double din dash kit. Cut the excess plastic on the dash kit. Slimport adapter to convert usb to hdmi then convert the hdmi to 5.1 rca. There might be an easier way to get control of all speakers from the tablet but this is my best idea at the moment. Possibly external usb DAC. Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 and PBR300X1(wanting tiny sized amps open to other suggestions if they are about the same size).

This should get me where I think I want to be but everything looks good on paper. As far goes internet it will be tethered to my phone via wifi tether.

I use an iPad for my head unit, well display. I have a RF processor that the iPad connects to by BT and my amps are connected to the processor.

I have a JoyFactory mounting arm with 5/8" camera thread mount mounted inside the double DIN space with some metal brackets attached to the side stays of a kit I picked up to mount my own head unit as I ordered my Fit with zero audio. I chose this method as it is easily removable, but might not be to the liking of some.

I also have a Nexus7 that I wouldn't mind using, but JoyFactory doesn't make a shell for it and also it is limited to 32GB versus the 128 in the iPad. I do have a few network hard drives that I could use if I went with the Nexus to up its limits on size.
