Paddle shifting

I have a 2009 sport, is there an advantage on using them?

yes. I always use the shifter to downshift and slow down the car instead of depending on the brakes 100%.

I use them to rev to red line 6700rpm....

my auto shift point is on D is 6200 and i lose power on next gear
my S auto shift @ 6200rpm???
Paddles can hold gears at redline and if i use it right, i dont lose power on next gear

He's saying they have a function for him, nobody is saying the Fit is a Porsche, but if he enjoys driving the car sportingly the paddles are helpful for that.

1. Rev to redline
2. Maintenance throttle in corner without auto upshifting
3. Engine braking
4. The ability to select 4th gear, I don't think the base auto has that, just 1-3 and D?

IDK that's what i'd use it for if I had an auto anyway.

Gotcha. That would be more of a preference than an advantage as the OP was asking about. Just me.

Paddles provide the AT a slightly better passing "ability."

Instead of jamming on the pedal and waiting for the car to shift, you can down shift a little ahead of time and get the power to pass other cars a little sooner.

It's definitely not a Porsche... but it ain't the slouch box people make it out to be... "oh, I'm terrified of driving it on the highway, with no passing power."

At least, that's what my friend does. I don't have paddles...

I drive fit like porsche

its fun because fit's rpm goes up, up, up for 10+seconds and yet speed is still under 70mph...street legal

I can't do that in porsche...in 10sec, speed will be 100mph+.....track legal

Norristown huh? Ive seen you driving through town like a rocket ship past that guy that does the crazy dancing. The rest of you out there reading this cant even begin to understand what kind of odd dancing this guy does every day on the corner.

So....heres the link since its indescribable.

Now, back on the topic.

My experience with the paddle shifters is that it wont hold the gear if you drop a gear while in D. I think it holds in S but I only used it a few times and just drive it normally now.

Yup, it'll hold gear when you're on S.

I don't know about US Fit, but all Brazilian fit models has 5 gears, both manual or automatic, top AT models with paddles.
I have a fit with paddles and i love using them. Holding more rpm is one of its use. But I always use them downhill to save brakes even with disks on 4 wheels.
With paddles we can even get better gas mileage as we can prevent automatic downshifting and higher rpm uphill or on accelerations.

We didn't get the paddles here on our Sport Autos. So around the city if in sporty mood I just leave it in third. Can wind it up nicely for on ramps. If anything I end up slowing down to merge, then blow by a couple cars before dropping back into D.

Now that you've explained it, it make perfect sense.
