DIY Replacing Rear Bumper

Just bought a fit and the rear bumper has a "cut/dent" in it. Almost like someone took a piece of steel 2 in long half in wide and just punched it into the bumper. Just hit the bumper. Nothing else. Is this something I should just take to the body shop or should I look for an oem spare part in tidewater metallic blue and replace it myself? It is a 2009 Fit Sport. How hard would this be? Is the sport bumper the same as the base bumper? Thanks.

Ya know, know after looking at it a bit, replacing the whole thing is overkill. Is it possible to remove it myself, patch it somehow, and paint? How hard would this be?

The rear bumpers are the same on base and sport... however, they come unpainted.

That being said... it shouldn't be too hard to remove, just take your time dealing with the screws and clips. Consider buying a thin spatula (as thin, but sturdy as possible and about an inch wide). This would be useful in separating the bumper from the "clip" that holds it to the rear quarter of the body.

I've taken off the front bumper and the spatula is needed where the bumper comes in contact with the front quarter panel and with the headlights.

You can do it yourself. Just a couple of bolts to remove the plastic bumper cover. Take new cover to paint shop with paint code and you should be good.

The damage/cut/dent is small enough that I was actually thinking of using a heat gun to push the plastic out a bit (flat), then use a bit of body puddly to fill the cut, light sand and then touch up with paint (just where the cut is located). Gotta wait for it to warm up here before I try, the high is 17 today. I will post some before and after pictures when completed. Won't look perfect, but the damage isn't too noticeable now to start with, should make it even less noticeable for about a cost of $20 and my time.
