Tire reccomendation

Hey guys ! I'm new to the forum and a GE8 owner for a year now.
I bought a set of eibach prokit spring after a lot of research and the pics I found from a member here were really convincing and his report on comfort was nicely detailed.https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ings-pics.html (thanks for the nice analysis Whiskeysix!)
It brings me to this question. I have a nice old set of 15" Rota Slipstream with a 40mm offset that need new tires. I know I wont go larger then 195, but the ratio keeps me from getting good nights of sleep !!! I dont know what to do ! so I'm really in need of advice.
Do I go 55 of 60 ???
I read somewhere that my wheel arch will look empty with a 15. But I wanna go with a thick tire, and maybe improve the stiffness feeling of the suspension drop.

Are there any brands offering a big 60 sidewall with still nice hugging caracteristics ? I know the Yaris comes stock with 195/60r/15 but I want a summer/perfo tire, not a common all season radial.

thanks for your help.

I did a lot of research, I just cant make up my mind Fit Freaks, please help.

And whats the common size space people put in the back of a GE8 to make it even to the front ? 5mm ?

Rubbing issues ?

What type of fit do you own a sport or a base.

The offsets and track are different between the two. The base has 45mm offset while I thought the sports had a 55mm offset. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can always go out and measure you wheel and the width of the tire. The offset is the distance from the center of the tire that the hub interfaces with the wheel.

I'm thinking about buying some new wheels and tires for autocrossing my car and 195 would have no trouble fitting in the wheel wells with stock suspension anyway.

In the rears there is plenty of space between the tires and the dampers at least on the base model.

I would be more worried about tire width if you lowered your car.

As far as the spacer. Based on the offsets I mentioned above and the offset of 40mm for the tire you are thinking about mounting the tires on you may need a spacer. It would move everything 5mm in at least.

As far as the ratio for the height of the wall. If you end up with a different overall diameter of wheel and tire you will screw up your speedometer/odometer. going to a 195 55 or 60 from 185 55 will unavoidably screw up your speedo a few percent.

With the base 15" wheels the wells do look a bit empty I admit and my thoughts of buying 15" with and 195/50 tires would make the difference even larger haha.

Hope this helps breed more advice.

Good luck with the tire buying

Here is what 205/50-16 on 16x7 43mm offset look like. Seem to fill the wheel wells. I did take a hit on gas mileage by about 3 MPG but these tires (Conti DWS) are better in the snow.

Common offsets are 40-45. As for stiffer side wall, a high performance summer tire. Going to 16-17" wheel will be more effective though and yield better results.

I'm on a 17x7.5 with 205 and eibachs. With camber bolts, No rub. Also on DWS.

I would say much of the non-petroleum-based components have a high percentage of recycle in them. Periodically, I work for operations that have electric arc and/or induction furnaces and it is all scrap going into making that next piece of pipe, valve, aircraft landing gear.

thanks for the replies guys ! I have the sport 2009 model. I still own the 16s with 185/55r/16. But I'd like to put my Rota slipstream on there, for sure on 195 I just dont know what sidewall ratio to go with ....55 or 60. Does a tire with a 60 ratio will have a pleasant hugging caracteristic ?
Also, did anyone add spacers in the rear with the eibachs pro kit on aftermarket wheels...without rolling the fenders, will my Rota fitted with 195/60r/16 (If i can find a nice perfomance/summer tire with that sidewall ratio) rub ? with a 40mm offset ?

again thanks for your help.

Any pros and cons for the rear wiper mod ? I dont see why I would do it.
I'm also looking for the write-up on how to prevent DRLs from turning on and how to route the fog lights independant from the headlights...can it be done ?

I should tackle the eibachs soon....pictures to come

While the US Fit Sport has 16" wheels, the Base US Fit runs 15" steelies. With the stock-size 175/65-15 tires, the overall tire diameter is the same as the 185/55-16s on the Sport.

Since 175/65-15 is not a common size, we Base owners often go for something more easily available to replace the originals. 185/60-15, 185/65-15, and 195/60-15 are sizes that are very, very close to the original diameter and commonly used as replacements. I'm running 185/60-15s now with no problems; I think the design of the tire itself will be more important for good cornering behavior than the size.

Thanks for the reply 4thCornerFit

OMG ! I re-read my post and theres a typo ! My Rotas are 15s !! so I'm thinking 195/60/15, just wondering if a 60 sidewall can be a "hugger".

I'm dropping it with Eibachs pro kit, i want the wheel arch to be "on its way of looking filled up"
I know the width of the rear wheels are narrower then the front, if I try to make it equal (I heard theres no solution to correct camber in the back...but being a solid axle, would my camber change by dropping ??!! in the front yes but the back ??!!) will the wider 195 with the 40mm offset of the Rotas rub the rear fenders ?

Any takes on the rear wiper mod guys ? pros and cons ?
DRL solution from my earlier post ?

Have a good one FitFreak community !

Looks better IMO, of course this is subjective.

Current position is a dust catcher when at rest. Fills up quickly with dust/dirt and then when you need to use the wiper it smears the gunk all over the glass unless you first stop, and pull out wiper arm and let the accumulation drop first.
