Roof Storage Question
Roof Storage Question
This might be a dumb question but I have a 2012 base model...do I need to install permanent roof rails to store anything on the roof? It seems like it to me, but I don't know if there's anything more simple or temporary. It's for a trip next weekend.
Several companies (including the usual suspects, such as Thule, Rola, Yakima, Rhino, etc.) make roof racks that clip onto the Fit. You don't need to install permanent tracks/rails to use them.
I haven't heard of any rail kits specifically for the Fit, though it's certainly possible to install various generic/nonspecific ones. Indeed, there are one or two threads here about the process. Properly installing rails is a lot more work than using the clip-on rack models, however; and improperly or poorly installed rails could cause all sorts of problems (such as leaks in the roof, damaged side curtain airbags, or paint damage leading to rust.)
