Transmission Noise/Fluid Swap
Transmission Noise/Fluid Swap
My 2010 AT Fit has about 45,000 mi on it and i noticed that I'd hear a little grinding noise sometimes (30,000 mi mark) if the car was shifting from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3. Usually right around the 25 mph mark. It wasn't overly loud, and I was never able to duplicate the noise....it would just randomly show up.
I took the Fit to Honda, and they were unable to duplicate the issue either. They suggested flushing the tranny. I wanted them to cover the cost since it's still under warranty but they said it was impossible unless they heard the noise.
They ended up flushing it and the noise is now gone. I asked if the fluid smelled burnt and they said it did a little bit, but not too much. I'm happy that the problem has resolved, but worried about why the noise would've been there in the first place. Is the new flushed tranny just covering for a larger issue? Should I be worried?

Nope, this noise is common. Failed Fit transmissions are not (I've heard no accounts in 5 years). There've been a couple solenoid pack problem reports but that's it. Of course this isn't scientific. The accepted fix is changing the ATF (using Honda's fluid, of course).
Here's just one of many threads on the topic.
