Real world MPG for town drivers?
#21
Best so far for me 44mpg 75% highway 25% city driving. If mostly city driving i get around 30-33mpg. Just driving normally and sometimes flooring it for fun. I've only had my '13 fit sport M/T for around 2 months with 2,500mi on it. Haven't done my first oil change yet as dealer told me it would be on 3,000mi. Really fun car to drive and responsive.

It's been in the mid 60's at night and mid 90's day time. Had a front that went thru here, with hi winds, so that kept the temps down. Today (May 3) is supposed to be right about 100, + - , so we are back to "normal". It ususally is 100 before May, and humidity can get real dry - have seen it 6%.
Well, now it's back to The Dawg Days of Summer.
Just checked the local weather. It's 100 degrees and 3% humidity. Gee, no wonder I had a sinus headache....

Nice to see someone else with not-so-great gas mileage...I've never gotten above 30 mpg on the highway, and my regular mpg is 24-26. I think it's a combination of the way I drive and the ethanol in the gas (proven to cut mileage), but maybe I just got a mileage lemon?
We have no hills in Houston but our streets suck - very poor condition so it's kinda like off-roading every day...

I've heard that before, that Houston has really lousy streets. Phoenix used to be that way, but it has improved a lot. If you have a lot of stop & go traffic, that will kill the MPG.
I have family that live up the road a piece from you, in College Station. They are 100% Aggies.

Just to stir the pot, bought gas today and got 41 MPG, highest I've ever gotten. Last Sat, I drove out to Wild Horse Raceway for a car race (which didn't come off cuz of high winds and storm we had), so drove home. Was doing 65-70, roughly 80 mile round trip. Same tank of gas all week; going to work and home partial freeway and partial surface street. Thought I would get mid 30's and it came out 41. Sometimes it's wierd the way this car gets MPG. Not complaining, but wondering if it was the trip last Sat that helped the MPG? Anyhoo, gas was $3.479 per gallon at Quick Trip for regular.

Constant stop and go traffic, and we use the AC a lot, as you must in Phoenix. I thought your roads were beautiful when I passed through there last summer. We have gumbo clay soil, which heaves and shrinks with the rain level - it would be hard to keep the roads nice even if that was the only thing city government did.

26-29 in suburban driving. The Chicago area has that crappy low emissions gasoline that hurts mileage. Low 30's when buying normal gasoline away from our area. Cold weather costs a mile or two per gallon as does running the AC.
Got high 30's on a highway trip with good gas.
It's an automatic.

You would know it because all the gas stations have big stickers that tell you how much ethanol is in the gas. Around here, and every state I've been in lately, it's only ethanol-added gas, though I have heard that there are still places that don't have to carry it.

Many big cities in the US are required by the EPA to use winter and summer gasolines with unique formulas. Everything around here has 10% ethanol. It cost more to make and has other additive besides ethanol that hurt mileage. They add MTBE to boost octane, but it doesn't help mileage.

Oh it's a thing all right. Ethanol as an additive really hurts miles per gallon and it also attracts and holds water in your engine. It does a number on older engines - we had a '95 Camry that would throw a check engine code because it was sensitive to the ethanol.

I have a 6 mile one-way commute that is either city streets or freeway gridlock depending on the route I take. I generally also drive my car like I stole it. My car is a 5MT. I am averaging 25-26 mpg for that sort of driving.

I need some of that "Quick Trip Regular" for my 2007 Fit, so I can increase my mpg. Where can I buy it?

My city of Albuquerque only sells E10. We bought our Honda Fit about a month ago so I can only report mild weather driving. My wife averages around 35 mpg in our city, and I have been around 43 mpg.
Regarding Ethanol: it has 2/3rds the heat content of petrol, so E10 drops mpg ~ 3% compared to E0. 29/30 if you like exact fractions.

~26MPG. But it's only a 7 mile (per direction) trip, and it's ~50mph, with many stoplights, and several long and steep elevation changes. I'm quite frankly, impressed. My old SUV only got 9MPG on the same route (>4L V8), though it did weigh about twice as much as the Fit. The SUV only took premium, too.

35mpg
My last fill up was at 8,183 miles. I've been recording my fill-ups with the fuelbuddy app. I am averaging 35mpg. My highest mileage tank was 44.5mpg and my lowest was 31.6mpg.
My best tanks have all been on long highway trips. I get that high by staying at 60 or less and by following trucks (not aggressive tailgating like I see every day on my commute, but legally tailgating).
I also record what my dashboard mpg gauge average is for each tank. I put it all in a spreadsheet and found that reads an average of 2% high.
