2013 Fit being recalled for problem with right-side axle shaft

The following was reported on May 31,2014 by Tom Torbjornsen at The Car Connection.

"The 2013 Honda Fit is being recalled for a problem with the right-side axle shaft.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Fit equipped with manual transmission suffers from under-tempered axles. The heat-treating step in the manufacturing process of these axles was not successful. That subjects the driveshaft to stress cracks, to the degree that the shaft can separate and not drive the wheels when engine power is applied.

No injuries or accidents have been reported as of yet.

Owners will be notified by mail in June. Dealers will inspect the right side driveshaft inboard CV boot band, and depending on the serial number, may replace the right side driveshaft. Depending on what has to be done, (inspection or shaft replacement), the job can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

Owners with questions about the 2013 Honda Fit axle shaft recall can contact the NHTSA at 888-327-4236 or Honda at 800-999-1009."

Dang.

This is the first I've heard of it, though, so thanks for the heads up.

What that report fails to mention is it only affects 1,038 vehicles.
