Electrical, starter, or something else?

I have a 2013 Honda Fit base model, 5 speed with 13000 miles that I bought new. I love the car and have had no problems with it - until trecently.

I had spent the morning running a couple of errands: driven the car about 10 miles, turned off the car, went shopping, got back in the car and started it up again. The second time I did this, the car wouldn't start. Not only would it not start - it was totally dead and the brake pedal (not the emergency brake) was fully engaged.

By that, I mean that the brake pedal was as if I was braking the car for a hard stop. Turning the key did nothing - nothing showed up on the dash. After turning the key (and removing it several times and trying again) and fiddling with the brake pedal, the pedal returned to the normal position and turning the key started the car.

I'm due to go to the dealer soon for a scheduled service. Any suggestions as to what they should look at? It hasn't happened since then.

Just tell them about what happened and they should be able to check out the brake system for you. Never hurts to have the dealer (or other trusted mechanic) check things out for you.

As it involves critical components (brakes, starting) I'd take it in now. There are codes stored in different systems that they can use to see event history. If you wait too long these will be lost.

I've never heard of anything like this. I can't think of anything mechanical/electrical that would result in the brake pedal being pressed down, without someone doing it.
