General Maintenance Questions

Coming up on my first maintenance* on an '13 Fit. Your help is requested.

1) Is the 1st gen. oil filter the same as the 2nd gen. oil filter? I have a 1st gen. oil filter wrench, and I want to know if it will fit?

2) What is the replacement capacity of the manual transmission fluid? Same as 1st gen.?

3) I use HandA and Bernardi, with about equal satisfaction/dissatisfaction. Do you guys have a preference?

*I follow my own rules, customs and superstitions with regard to auto maintenance. This event has nothing to do with the Maintenance Minder or the OEM recommendations.

1. Yes filter is the same.

2. Exact capacity I don't know. I just get two quarts and pump until it runs out the fill, and usually end up with about 1/2 quart left.

3. I use H&A occasionally, every time shipping and service were good. I've never tried Bernardi.

Thanks, Wanderer.

Here's something weird: Bernardi Parts says that there are three, not two, bolts. The third is a fluid level check hole (??).

Anybody unbolting three bolts when they do an MT fluid change? I never did on my 1st gen.

#16 is filler bolt washer 94109-12000 $0.41
#18 is the washer 94109-20000 $0.50 This is where you check to see if you have enough transmission fluid.
#17 is the drain bolt washer 94109-14000 $0.26

I think washer #16 is technically for the port called the fill (bolt #7). When you have direct access, probably easier to use since all you need to do is have a funnel to pour into. You need the bolt for washer #18 (#15) open so you know when to stop, which is as soon as fluid starts coming out of it.

However, if #7 isn't easily accessible (or if you're just feeling like keeping things like bolting/unbolting and washer replacement to a minimum), then #15 can be used as a fill port... but as Wanderer. stated... you need to use a pump of some sort to get fluid in through that hole.

Bolt #9 with washer #17 is for the drain, so that gets open either way.

Oh there's one on top you can funnel to? I did not know that. Is it hidden under the airbox? I was wondering how people were snaking the funnel to the fill and still seeing wtf they were doing. I am one to unbolt as little as possible so yeah...

Yeah I just use a bottle pump I got from NAPA, it was $4 I think. They wanted like $12 for the pump at the dealership lol. It takes a while and can get uncomfortable but you only have to do it once every 30k so I just deal with it. You need to check when it's full out of that fill hole or check hole or whatever you want to call it anyway, so you have to unplug it, I just pump while i'm down there.

It probably is under the airbox... it might be more accessible to the folk that swapped out the airbox for aftermarket intakes.

Urgh, I really need to do it one of these days... almost 80k miles (4 yrs as of last week) and still on factory fluids for trans, clutch and brakes. >.>

Ooo thanks for reminding me to do the clutch too

I'm at almost 100k I haven't done brakes or clutch, doing it next week. You should do it before it gets cooler out... unless it's really hot where you're at then wait haha
