Advice for moving a double/full mattress with box springs please!
Hi everyone! I'm new here! I lease a 2014 Honda Fit (standard vs swanky sport edition) and I have to haul a double/full mattress with box springs across town. Anyone have advice as to how to do that? Thank you!
Use an old bed sheet you're willing to throw away, cover the bed and put it on top of the Fit?
I know I'm cranky from lack of sleeps, but seriously, what's the deal here?
Simple rule for putting ANYTHING in ANY CAR:
If it doesn't fit inside, put it on top. If not on top, on a trailer or use another (bigger) vehicle... that's all there is to it.
If you're afraid of damaging the LEASED car... don't use it.
Simple... no?

+1 to what Goobers said. I'm guessing you probably wouldn't want to go to the trouble of installing a hitch since it's a leased vehicle, so putting it on top is going to be your only option unless you rent something. I would suggest doing what Goobers said and cover the mattress with a sheet. Put the mattress on top of the car first, so it can conform to the roof shape and put the boxspring on top of that. Then you can use some ratchet straps through the front and back windows to strap them down to the roof. Use some rags or towels to help cushion the straps so they don't rub or dig into the headliner/window trim/paint around the tops of the windows. I don't think you'd want to get going too fast doing this though....best to stick to back roads and keep the speed slow. The mattress and boxspring have a lot of area to catch wind and even if you strap them down well it could still turn into a problem if the wind gets a hold of them.

Depends how far you must drive. If you have to take the highway, I would caution against mounting a bed to the roof but it could be done on smaller streets. You could go to walmart and see if you can by a cheap foam camping mat to protect the roof.
Goes without saying you gotta remove the antenna and get some string, perhaps para chord. The knot you want for securing the mattress is called a trucker's hitch. Just google trucker's hitch and you'll find it. You should pass the string around the mattress and under the roof with both doors open and close the doors over the rope. Also, you obviously want to put the box spring over the mattress as to not damage the roof. I would drive slowly taking care not to brake suddenly. Good luck.

1. Put blanket, towel, whatever on the roof
2. Put mattress on top, put box spring on top
3. Put your front tow hook in, run a strap from that over the hood, over the mattress to the back of the car, hook it somewhere in the rear that's a solid body frame piece. This will keep the mattress from catching air and flapping up, which feels not nice when you're driving.
4. Put straps through the front windows and over the top
5. Put straps through the rear windows and over the top
Good luck
