Questions on paint
Questions on paint
Hey guys and gals, I've got some questions on paint.
I've had my 2011 Fit Sport for about six months now, and have been trying really hard to keep everything perfect on it's orange paint job. However, low and behold, I find some scratches and chips in my paint. It's the orange model, by the way...
There are 3 issues I think I'll be able to fix, and a few I'll probably have to either seek professional help, and/or just replace completely.
Here we go, the paint issues are listed as follows:
-a centimeter circle sized chip, and small dent in the paint to a white (basecoat?) on the front passenger door (I'm guessing someone or maybe rather hoping, someone just opened their door too hard on me.)
-a crescent shaped scratch on the rear passenger door (unlike the other scratch, it's not white underneath, but it doesn't quite seem to be sheet metal either. Once again, it's probably from a door of another driver.)
-long scratches on the bottom of trunk lid that span from the bottom of the sill, up probably a good 5 centimeters or so. (not sure how that happened, :/)
-An odd, milky discoloring on the driver's side running boards. I believe it has been that way since I bought it, and assumed it was water marks from washing. It's an issue that I'm not sure I'll be able to fix myself...
-2 spots on the roof where the paint has cracked, and has an odd spider-web pattern. I'm guessing it's from the roof metal being thin, and being able to bend more than the paint is able to.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered at least the last two issues, or if anyone has suggestions on whether or not I'll be able to fix the other issues on my own -or if I'm better off seeking a professional. I've seen little touch-up products here and there, but I fear the orange paint job I love is hard to get a good match too. Anyone have any advice?
-Thanks for reading my long post... :P

I had factory touch paint for my last 2 Mazda's and neither of them were perfect matches. My white 2011 Fit has some scratches and chips. Most are from road
rash on expressway driving.
Unless you are a great detailer you probably cannot repair any of them to be as good as original.
Over the many years I have owned and driven cars I have learned to live with the
small chips and scratches. They will happen unless you never drive the car.

That's a good point. I left out the chips I have on the hood because I figured I'd replace it sooner or later with carbon fiber, or maybe even Kevlar.
I guess I'll just live with it, and hope I don't get anything too egregious, (Like being rear-ended again) and chalk it up to "life happens."
The one thing that I found really weird though, was the milky issue on the running boards. I'm not really sure what happened there, maybe it was painted wrong from day one?
