Addressing the purported noise issue

I have a 2013 Fit base model and have got a decibel meter for $29 from China.(What ain't made there) So now I am sampling the roads at certain speeds and conditions and will report my findings then will make certain modifications and travel the same roads in the same way to see how such improvements can be worthwhile if any. Already I get readings from 60-80 decibels on local roads here in Austin but will document type and speed etc. to make it noteworthy for you to read. I am going the cheapest way to improved soundproofing I can find.

I'm curious to see the results. Could you put the decibel meter in different parts of the car? I wonder which parts of the car need more soundproofing than others. I know the doors would be very worth padding with some dynamat/similar product.

Excellent Idea. Preliminary results show as high as 85 decibels at 40 MPH on rougher (large grain surface)roads here about Austin. I get 80D at 75 MPH on smooth asphalt. Taking readings in center of car.No A/C running. This weekend will get more exact and extensive readings from different areas of the car. Then I will proceed with some U-Tube posted Ideas to remedy.

Road Test

Okay, today I rode a certain section of roads and obtained X results. So we do get 100 decibels on rough roads. I will explain this later. I get 3-8 decibels higher putting the sensor near the floor board but what counts is sound levels at the ears. This is what I will concentrate on. Only a couple decibels for AC or reasonable radio volumes. So now I will use spray on under coatings and insulation products and will rerun my test at the same speeds and roads then post what I have done.

Definitely watching this. I love when people do actual scientific tests on things like this.
